Re: The unofficial, official HAGI topic!
Wow! nice family shot! Where is the LARGE version? MUST SEE.
Re: The unofficial, official HAGI topic!
I'll have to see if I can borrow my moms DSLR and get a good Hi Res shot that you can blow up to 100x the size and see every little grain of sand in the clay
Re: The unofficial, official HAGI topic!
Great pics! My biwa was my worst leaker ever and as I said in another post it was so severe I had to give it about 4 treatments. And now it feels dead.

Re: The unofficial, official HAGI topic!
Victoria, some of my colleagues who are into the more esoteric arts, such as guided meditation, reiki and stone work, will place their healing objects outside in the natural elements for 2-3 days to "revive" them? I'm thinking maybe a good boil with a pinch of sea-salt, followed by an extended time "resting" outside might revive your bowl? I only suggest such a thing because you've mentioned a couple of times that your bowl feels "dead," which I equate with a loss of some intangible vibrance that you felt was present before it had been treated (smothered?)
If you really want to go "far out" to "cleanse" your bowl, pm me and I'll give you some suggestions.

Great shot Adam, wow!
Thanks Geek, I do want to try some options or else I will never use it.

Is that a Guinomi? its not the SO #8 right? It looks similar but different, so I'm not sure.Victoria wrote:

Yeah it's a guinomi, good eye! Still Waiting on my SO#8 which is hung up in San Francisco customs, after it was delayed in Japan. Talk about sloooow.
Re: The unofficial, official HAGI topic!
WOW!!
Great photos all! GG - those Macro shots! Shuweeeet!
And Adam - the family shot - just great.
Vic - really cool shot of your guinomi, nice.
What a pleasure to see all these beautiful hagi!
Vic - I'm so sorry to hear about your biwa's 'dead' feel.
I treated mine three times (one cold, two hot), and intuitively did not want to go any further. And I think I know what you mean (tho mine isn't 'dead' I think it is 'dulled'). But mine still leaks a bit - so I guess it's still breathing. So I always use a chataku.
I'm curious about revival GG? PM?
Cheers everyone.
Oh, and Vic - that's just wrong that your Hagi so#8 isn't arrived yet.
(on another note - just received a package from Hawaii - heh heh heh).

Re: The unofficial, official HAGI topic!
I'm starting to realize that my ice splits are way too big for my normal tea routine, i.e. Chinese teas taken out of small cups. Anyway, is Hagi like yixing in that it's one tea type, one hagi? Or am I free to use different kinds of tea in the same hagi?

Re: retreat then re treat
Great Hagi everyone! All so lovely as only Hagi can be. Thanks Maitre-tea, Geek, Adam, Victoria, and Dreamer.
Working on SO #12. Japan seems to slow down for the entire month of December.
But it will be worth the wait!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Retreat then Re Treat!
Regarding the Biwa-s. I like to think of the one leaker (out of 3 received) as a prodigal child and worth the added effort. Seems more rewarding perhaps.
Retreat!!!! I say this after using the leaker yesterday after so many other times (guessing well over 100 steeps with no leaks) ... and I noticed quite a bit of moisture ... and a slightly tacky feel. Oh nozzz ... So, just tested it with PLAIN HOT WATER ... and TEA leaked out.
Pretty funny actually.
Well, it seems that the corn starch is slowly pushed through the clay over time, and it came to the surface en masse yesterday. Thus the plug is pushed through. So, I will Re Treat ... I think.
I just decided to stick water on the stove and bring it to a boil, then turn off and allow to cool with the water ... and yikes, as I was writing this sentence, I remembered the pot was on HIGH ... boiling wildly for I bet a half hour with the Biwa in it. Anyway, seems to be OK. But the water looks like very weak tea.
