Re: Hagi, presented for your disapproval
Interesting, and carelessness seems the norm here.Chesslover wrote:I also ordered from this ebay seller and must confirm Chip's findings...the writting on the box is smeared...but I kind of expected that. What is worse - the size in the bid and actual size don't match. In the bid it said 9,4 cm wide. And I received cup 6 cm wide. It's no use to me, because it holds less than 100 ml and I wanted (and expected) it to hold around 150 ml...
I'm so sad...they don't accept returns...what can I do?

I did not mention (since it was secondary to the main issue) that the one piece I was very excited about since it was sized as an ippoku-wan at 3.7" wide, arrived and was 2.7" wide, a 1" or 2.5 cm error.
That is a huge error as far as usage goes, a full steeep of sencha to less than half a steep by volume. I very rarely buy anything less than 3" and bought this really wanting this glaze in a 3.7" wide piece.
Plus the walls are very thick ... which would be OK at 3.7"
Major disappointment!!!

Re: Hagi, presented for your disapproval
Doesn't matter if there are "no returns." If your items are substantially not "as stated," (and I think the significant size variance qualifies as 'substantially',) you can open a claim for a full refund. If you want to be really above board, give them 3-5 business days to respond to your complaint. Ebay is very favorable to buyers in these types of situations, especially when you pay with Paypal.
Re: Hagi, presented for your disapproval
Thank you Geekgirl...I have written a complaint to them, so I'll wait for few days...

There seem to be enough different discrepancies from different people to raise real questions about this seller's intent. I'd say you should get together and contact EBay to raise those questions.

I wonder how many requests God gets everyday? And, what happens if the wrong god gets the request? Terribly confusing.ronin ceramurai wrote:"God grant me the serenity

So, did the seller reply to your message?Chesslover wrote:I opened ebay case...now they will contact seller...I have to wait for 7 days...
The seller did not reply to my message til I finally posted negative feedback ... then in their response to my one feedback where I said they were nonresponsive, they said they were surely responsive.

Nevermind that I knew the seller had responded to John as a "potential buyer" at least 2X after I sent my message to them while ignoring my message.
Re: Hagi, presented for your disapproval
I waited for their reply for 4 days...
But when I opened case in ebay - they responded quickly...
They offered me similar cup, but bigger, for free OR refund of money (without postage)...what should I do?
And they "explain" the smeared caliography:
"And maybe due to lack of knowledge about Japanese traditional callgraphical ink, it will smear if you touch the point. Traditional old fashioned black ink (geniune)is different industrial printing ink, powdered graines still remains on the surface. If you touch it, it will smears other part, then, in most cases, after purchasing, they cover the box like this and be careful about the point, never touch it."

Re: Hagi, presented for your disapproval
Has anyone taken photos of these flaws and sent them in to one of the trusted online sellers to ask their opinion? You wouldn't need to include the disapproved seller's information, just the images and a request. Many of us have purchased several works from legit sellers like AN and Magokorodo.
I would imagine that they are quite familiar with repackaging and counterfeiting tactics, particularly for the artists they represent.

Re: Hagi, presented for your disapproval
Actually I sent it to Artistic Nippon, and he said he
thought they probably were legit. Actually his quote was:
"As for Seigan's box on ebay, I recognize his writing, so I think the box is signed by Seigan. He has at least few types of stamps for his wooden boxes.
Hope this helps."

From Magokorodo Ebay on one of his Seigan Chawan:
"The signed cloth, the signature storage box made from the paulownia only for a special order, and a guide are attached to this work.
The paulownia storage box attached to this teabowl is a SHIHO-ZAN paulownia storage box for exclusive use made from the special order according to this work (it is not a box of a mass-production article).
The autograph signature of SEIGAN is written to this box by himself."
The seal is rather blurry and I believe that Hidehisa of Magokorodo can be 100% trusted when he says this was hand-stamped and signed by Seigan. I guess a good potter isn't necessarily a good printer.

Does this mean that this whole thread has been a misunderstanding?britt wrote:From Magokorodo Ebay on one of his Seigan Chawan:

Re: Hagi, presented for your disapproval
I think Britt is referring to an item he purchased at Mago. Not the topic vendor.
Mago had tipped me off to the practice some time ago of sellers doing this and actually named one that many of us have used on ebay that he knew for a fact conducted this shady practice! The game is to buy mass produced "kiln pieces" (often from distributors, not from the kiln) and then authenticate them with vendor signed boxes that often bear the "seller's signature" all the while never disclosing this to the buyer.
Mago buys all his pieces directly from the artisans and their kilns.
Also, in this sellers case, when he did finally reply to my message to him, he actually pointed a finger at Mago.
I will be discussing all these things with Mago ... stay tuned as the world turns and the plots get more and more tangled.
