I must share my joy. Yesterday I discovered the following small kyuusu at a local consignment shop. For five dollars!!!

It's in mint-to-excellent condition, and shows no evidence of ever having been used. Brown Tokoname, perhaps? Well, I'm not sure. At any rate, it has a satisfying shape and heft. This photo doesn't do it justice (a little blurred, far too glarey), but what the hey:

By the way, I tried the drip test mentioned in another thread (filling the pot with water, putting my thumb over the vent hole, and pouring to see how good the seal of the lid is). I got only a small number of drips, and then - nothing. Damn, this is a great little pot! A dream to hold, and very nice to pour from.

And can I just say, I love the shape and texture of kyuusu. Ahh...

Heh... the funny thing about this purchase is that I wasn't in the shop to buy a kyuusu at all. I had gone back to the consignment shop to pick up an entirely different tea item (a 600 ml Iwachu tetsubin, also second-hand, with a design of maple leaves). And here was this little kyuusu looking at me with a sad-puppy-dog expression. Of course I had to take it home.

So when I have a chance, I'll photograph the tetsubin, 'cause they're fellow adoptees

Not quite as much of a bargain - $40 Cdn plus taxes. Still, it's less than the $70-75 list that I later discovered it normally goes for... which made it a bit easier to justify the splurge, frankly! And it does look virtually unused, with a flawless enamelled interior. Ultimately, though, I just found the design irresistible; Japanese maple leaves are such graceful things...

Here's a product photo of the same model of tetsubin (aka-chairo Iwachu tetsubin with kaede, or maple leaves) - except that mine has a darker reddish-brown finish, rather than this bright red colour:

Good find. Five dollars is a heck of a deal. Unfortunately I'll never find a deal like that in my area, considering I live in one of the redneck capitals of the world. Beer cozies, yes. kyuusus, not a chance.

What a lovely kyuusu! It could be banko-yaki (banko-ware) as well, but I'm not an expert.

350 ml (almost exactly 1.5 cups).

Hello everyone. I've not been here long, but am enjoying the discussions greatly - and even more so the wonderful pictures!

Here's my collection of Japanese tea ware, taken tonight to post on another forum. I missed a few small items, but this is the bulk of it:

Thanks! I've become something of a Hokujo addict, I'm afraid...
