Beautiful wares! We own many of Michael's creations and marvel each time they are used at the intricacy of his pieces. You will enjoy them immensely for sure!

I recently purchased 2 yunomi from Shyrabbit and I think part of why they're such a pleasure to use is that the intricacy, at least in my pieces, comes from the depth of the shape and the glaze and the way they merge. That's why I think of them as usable art rather than crafts.

I'm drinking Yancha more frequently simply to use these cups.

My first purchases from any potter outside of Japan. Shy rabbit, I've heard a lot and when i coincidentally stumbled on his store and just couldn't hold myself from making an account and purchasing these.

Love pink-ish glazes,

I heard they have that color at relatively lower temp, darn hard to fire since the temperature required is quite narrow and fixed

In China those low-fired pink (Yan Zhi) glaze is said to be harder to fire than high-fired Tian Qing or Hei You.

I woulda swooped had they been smaller.

While a larger cup makes for a larger and often more dramatic "canvas," I usually prefer smaller cups for tea, which unfortunately puts most Yunomi out of range. Having said that, I used a 9 ounce (270) ml) wan today ... I think it is a combination of size and shape.

Of course, this is all personal preference!

Yeah, I am weird ... maybe.

I frequently use and enjoy a "wan" (bowl smaller than a chawan) filled less than halfway, often much less as I did this morning with Shira Hagi SO.

But for some reason I have not been able to use and enjoy a perhaps equal volume Yunomi filled less than halfway +/-. However if the Yunomi is flared somewhat like "Snowdrift" Hagi SO, then I am fine.

Is it any wonder that Hagi SOs were more often wan types than Yunomi?

We'll definitely need to follow the progress of this one to see how the interior takes to tea--will crackles appear in the tiny snowy billows?

Coincidentally, sort of. Two sencha sessions ...

First featured Shibuya Deishi kyusu and wan with Uji Sencha Premium Grade, asamushi. You can see the level in the wan is quite low. This does not phase me in the least. I am guessing the wan holds 12 ounces (360 ml) or more.



Second featured Mukuhara Kashun kyusu and "small" Yunomi (holds around 5 ounces (150 ml) and Yuzamashi with Sae Midori. This works for me. A typical steep will fill the Yunomi around 3/4 or so.

Beautiful, Chip. I love Deishi's work. What's the size on the kyusu? Looks smallish for a Hagi kyusu.

The Kashun pieces are nice as well. The yunomi looks very "grippy" and I bet the flared lip makes it comfortable to drink from. Nice balance of form and function.

I agree that a cylindrical yunomi hast to be filled to 1/2 at least, otherwise it just doesn't feel right for some reason. With more tapered vessels it's less of an issue. It's all subjective, though, and occasionally I will drink a small amount from a large yunomi.
