Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
I got my first shipment ever from Jing Tea Shop (china) 2 days ago. Yesterday tried a sheng sample.
Tonight I broke open the Tie Luo Han. Nice looking intact leaves.
8gm in a 110ml Zhu Ni.
wash 3 secs, 5s, 5s, 8s, 10s, 12s
performing well may need to do another 6 to find out all about it.
Strong dark but very drinkable roasted autumn flavours, very reminiscent of many DHPs that I have had. The 5th infusion I am starting to see more layers of flavour, more viscosity and an element of minerals showing through.
I need to keep going to find out more, but I need to take a breather from it for 20 minutes, hence my trip to the PC.

This stormy evening, I'm enjoying a delicious high fired TGY from TeaMasters. 5g in Tim's (Mandarin's Tea Room) dragon & phoenix gaiwan (~ 90ml). Wonderful espresso/dark chocolate up front, and a rather lengthy sweet berry finish. I've found that I get 5 very good steeping from this tea.

I'm being tempted to get this, but little else interests me at Tea Masters at the moment. Anyone want to sell off a bit?NOESIS wrote:This stormy evening, I'm enjoying a delicious high fired TGY from TeaMasters. 5g in Tim's (Mandarin's Tea Room) dragon & phoenix gaiwan (~ 90ml). Stéphane's roasted TGY is the best heavy roasted oolong I have tasted so far.brandon wrote:Edit: Got some!
I would certainly like to know your impressions on this tea. As you seem to know pretty well The Tea Gallery and The Mandarin's Tea Room selections, I am wondering how this one would compared to some of their teas.
If anyone else has tried both, please feel free to comment of course.

At the moment I'm finishing up my Sunday morning Yancha session. Today's selection was Shui Xian 2 Stamp from Tea Gallery.

Glad to hear your trying out jingteashop. I don't think you will be disappointed.Herb_Master wrote:I got my first shipment ever from Jing Tea Shop (china) 2 days ago. Yesterday tried a sheng sample.

I'm having the same thing today, tie luo han from jingteashop. Currently this tea is way up on my fav. wuyi list and just keeps on surprising me. The first time I tried it, I had mixed feelings because it does have a slightly more astringent taste but I think it just adds a little something to the overall taste.

Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
I did not notice any astringency, but then because I had a fairly heavy packing I let the kettle take a count of 20 (after boiling) before pouring into the yixing. (I have sometimes had excessive charcoal on the first few infusions when I pack heavy, so thought to let the water cool off a little.)
I did find charcoal on the first 3 infusions but it was pleasant enough, and the later infusions showed plenty of other flavours.
I ended up with about 10 infusions last one being about 3 minutes, I could have squeezed another long one out, but was finished by then.
Did you get the astringency using near boiling water, or long steeps on a medium packing? Early infusions only or all the way through?

Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
I have been drinking JingTeaShop TLH again, but with a lighter packing and hotter water.
6gm in a 110ml Zhu Ni.
Water just from the boil.
It needed longer infusions and is giving up after about 6.
The charcoal roastiness is almost absent, maybe a tiny tiny bit of astringency on the first infusion only.
The similarity of the first infusion(s) to DHP is no longer present.
Interesting session, very pleasing, but I think the first session had more reward.

Re: What Oolong are You Drinking Right Now?
I probably get a bit more astringency because I think I brew it a little longer than most. Its only in the first 1-3 infusions. I use a 60ml gaiwan and pack it 1/2-3/4 full of leaf and brew for 20sec infusions all the way through. I probably should play around more with my times but thats what I do for now. The astringency is very slight but noticable. If brewed a little shorter it might not show up at all.

Tsuei Luan from TeafromTaiwan.
Enjoyable, but not as good as some other recent oolongs.
Very floral scent but more astringent than I normally like.

'09 Wu Ye Dan Cong from Tea Habitat: a near perfect gong fu cha session, sweet, spicy, floral, little of almost everything you could want in one tea.
