Hello Chip,

I spent two days other there, as a part of a one week drive along the coast of the sea of Japan beginning in Hiroshima with stops at Hagi, Matsué, Tamatsukuri-onsen, and Tottori.

Unfortunately for me, in december and during the particular days I was there, a lot of teaware attractions were closed such as the museum (of antique korean teaware, not the main museum of Hagi which was actually great) and the main gallery with works of the modern artists.

But I do not regret my trip there. It was calm and beautiful (you saw the beach 8) )

As I don't speak japanese, going in the non touristic kilns was virtually impossible. The rest was either very touristic things and most of them closed. ^^

So, not many Hagi-yaki over there, but I happened to have my revenge in Tottori, when visiting who has now become my very good friend Hide. I think you can imagine what I had the chance to see other there in his ali baba cave :P

Si I do have photos of hagiyaki but almost none from my trip. But I happen to have some as I am in love with Seigan's work. I will post a few soon.

No Hagi-yaki in Hagi....... I hate to hear of these types of experiences :( Going to Tottori to find Hagi-yaki....

I'm just shaking my head..... it doesn't have to be this way.... :(

If you have plans to head that way again David, please contact me.... I can help out a bit.

Don't feel sad for me ! I did see hagi-yaki in Hagi, a lot actually. But it was mainly tourist stuff, at every corner. But I didn't often come across real artisanal items such as the ones sold by Hidehisa of Magokorodo.

Of course, the fact that a lot of things were closed - and the town virtualy deserted - was "bad timing." But I do not regret my stay other there. Teaware is a thing but I was able to enjoy myself in spite of that.

And believe me, I had my share of pleasure in Tottori ! :)

Thanks nonetheless, I will keep that in mind for my next adventure !

New Hagi Chawan, that is wonderful to hold, but I'm having a hard time finding information pertaining to the stamp, I know the Japanese characters, but putting them into google does not give me meaningful results.

Last Night's Split Ice!!

Did you watch the olympic opening ceremonies last night? Just wondering if anyone else was really amazed at how much the "virtual floor -- A terrain of ice virtually broke apart and turned the floor of BC Place into virtual oceans" - looked just like a Seigan split ice wan? Cool!

Okay - I used my biwa today - it just called to me!

And I was all set up to take this super-mac pic - and there was this perfect drip - and as the camera timer counted down - the drop dripped - rolled right down the side of the wan into the chataku! D@#n!

Here's the pic anyway. :?
(the drop/drip was about 4mm to the right of the stamp/symbol)

Cheers everyone. Happy Tea Weekend!

The Biwa's are certianly interesting, I love to look at mine and feel it, though I never feel the urge to use my biwa. Though I always love it when I do.
