I just received an older yixing pot from Taiwan. It has the number "25" stamped inside the lid. I will post photos in a few days.

Does anyone know what this number might signify? Is it the number of a worker? (It seems to be too high to signify number of cups or to be part of a numbered set.) The pot size is maybe 140 ml.

Inside the lid with a 25 C stamp is unusually. That's what Mr. M might be referring to.

CR meaning 66~76 those days' shui pings, any marks inside the lid is very rare(except commissioned pot like Qingyin, reported to be made in 75), 2-letter name inside the lid was often during late-70's, number inside the lid was often during early-80's

pre-CR had some x杯(cup) inside the lid..and so on

Thrift store pick up. I am no pro on these so I really dont know how good or bad it is. It comes in at around 70-75ml.

So here is the teapot I previously mentioned. I'm trying to figure out what the number inside the lid means. Chrl42 and MarshalN commented on it previously. The teapot is from Taiwan and was represented as an 80s teapot. The seller didn't really seem to care if he sold it or not.

You guys might recognize some of these. The Hongni on the left is from Red Blossom's Apprentice selection. The little guy you may remember as Zen8Tea's magical 50ml pot! And the big boy in the back is a mixed clay from Zen8Tea as well. I love them all very much!

Thank you! I like how you refer to it as a start. I can clearly see how much this, dare I say addiction, will be escalating in the near future though.

Overall, I am very happy with most of my yixing purchases. No one wants to see the ones I am not happy with.

And these odd-looking chops could be of Factory2~5 or other subcontracted factories (but clay could be F1's), Factory-1 rather used portioned chops,

6-letter (portioned) was often pre-CR
4-letter (ZGYX, length 5:5, 6:4, 7:3) was during CR
late-70's~early-80's used both, different design,
F1 wouldn't make ShuiPings until 90~91, (ZGYX length 8:2, 8-letter appeared), and 96~97 (12-letter appeared)

chrl42 - thanks for the information. The owner of the shop sells many 90s F1 pots. He also has some 80s F1 pots but no shuiping (which is what I was looking for). He also had many F5 pots. They tended to be a bit more ornate and larger but there were many types. I don't know why he had only F1 and F5 pots. I assumed F2 was more common than F5.

He bought most of the pots many years ago.

tea pairing : I think I'll leave it for decoration only.. It's not very convenient serving tea with this handle... and I don't know, I don't feel it like a teapot for .. use. I don"t know! anyway I find it very cute :p

My two dollar thrift store shui ping on right has the same markings on the chop. The clay looks different than yours. It seems fairly high fired and has a nice ring to it. This pot has a 5 under the lid. On the left is my a 95 ml lu ni bian hu that i just purchased from somethingsmuggledin originally from jing tea shop

It's a standard seal, variants of which are used by many, including the state-owned factories; Jingxi ("thorn creek"?) refers to Yixing or an area of Yixing; Hui Meng Chen is a famous potter whose seal was famously ubiquitous, Zhi meaning made. Some say 'jingxi nan mengchen zhi' or 'jingxi bei mengchen zhi'. (nan / bei being south and north)

So I finally bit the bullet and snapped up this little Mou Lu Ni 80s yixing from MTR!

Clay: Ben Shan Mou Lu Ni. (ink green)
Style: Shui ping (water balance)
Handmade

Walls: Thick (for the proportion)

Fire: Mid. Coal fire, Factory kiln
Pour: Smooth. Straight clean / No drips.

Lid: No mark
Bottom: Square stamp 'Made in Yixing'

Length: 3.75 inches (Tip of spout to tip of handle)

I have no idea what tea to use with it yet..

Anyone have any ideas on a little cup to pair with it?
