This is my first post. I've lurked around for a long time and love your forum. I'm making my debut to show a new yixing pot. I bought it through ebay where the seller had beautiful pictures posted, so I thought that I'd share a couple.
It's 120ml capacity, and I plan to use it exclusively for pu-erhs. When I came across the auction, I instantly adored the little pot, and after calculating the shipping to Brazil ($7.80!) I knew that it was destined for me.
Does anyone have information about its maker "Hai Tian Ge" Studio in Yixing? My google searches come up empty, and I can't read Chinese to translate the symbols.
Here is the url of the completed auction w/more photos: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0450613916

Re: Show Off Your Pots and Cups XI
Okay, so my Chawan finally arrived...When I saw the mailman walking towards my house, I literally jumped out of my chair and ran for the door, surprising him by opening the door just as he was to ring the doorbell...
I'm surprised about how small it is...somehow I expected it to be larger

And here's the inside...I love how the glaze is slightly uneven.

And the Kodai, complete with a little glaze mark on it, which I like to think of as a beauty mark...

I just made some Matcha, but since I'm in a hurry those photos will have to wait until later. BTW, this thing leaks...alot. I knew that Hagi-yaki leaked, but I didn't expect Karatsu-yaki to be the same. While I was preheating the Chawan I suddenly noticed a small pool of water around the Kodai, and my Chawan was "sweating." Is this something I should just accept, or can something be done?
Oh yes, is it just me, or does Matcha taste better in an actual Chawan?

I am not sure if this is a Yixing, it could be a Chao Zhou Teapot : http://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=10386
The bottom stamp said Hand Thrown pot. Hope this help. Cheers - T

Welcome NowSharing!! Beautiful pot! Congrats!
Maitre_Tea, that's a beauty! I find a little bit of "sweating" part of the charm. I always use a chataku. If you feel it is too much you can check the Hagi thread for "recipes" to stop the leaking.

Re: Show Off Your Pots and Cups XI
Great insight, thank you! I too thought it looked redder than the other yixings that I had seen, so it would make sense for it to possibly be a Chao Zhou.Hi Nowsharing. Welcome to tea chat nice pot you have there.

It's beautiful! nicely chosen! When I got my first chawan, I was surprised at the small size also. I had previously purchased a beautiful bowl that I was using as chawan, thinking it had the right dimensions and shape. I now use it as a kensui.Maitre_Tea wrote: I'm surprised about how small it is...somehow I expected it to be larger...

I don't know about the leaking, but I have a few bowls that sweat when I use them. There is a lot of condensation under the chawan at first, but it gradually diminishes with use. If you want to speed the process, you can use the rice gruel method. (I can't find a link at the moment.)
And yes, absolutely matcha tastes better in a real chawan!!!

Re: Show Off Your Pots and Cups XI
Looking at the photos on the site, I think I can make out very light lines on the pot's exterior and very definite concentric circles on the inside of the lid. I can't see well enough inside the pot itself, but I'll bet there are concentric lines from being thrown on a wheel there. All of that suggests, as Tim says, Chao Zhou origin since the tradition there is to throw pots on wheels. I just got my first Chao Zhou pots on the weekend and they are wonderful. If yours is half as nice as the photos suggest, you are very fortunate.nowsharing wrote: It's 120ml capacity, and I plan to use it exclusively for pu-erhs. They are from the same area as Dan Cong so they should marry well with Dan Cong and Imen (from whom I bought 3 of the 4) just sent me an email saying, "Try brewing green young pu-erh with it... you'll find pleasant surprises..

The Chao Zhou pots are less common on the TEAnternet it seems and their prices seem also to be lower, but the quality of the inexpensive ones I bought is very good. They look to me like a high quality bargain. Imen does warn, however, not to dump boiling water in a cold pot as it might cause some of them to crack since they have generally thinner walls than the Yixing pots.

Looks like I'm now looking for a chataku...and maybe another Chawan as well.Victoria wrote:Welcome NowSharing!! Beautiful pot! Congrats!

Congrats!

I think I'll go for Hagi-yaki next, since I'm doing the most popular types in reverse order
NOTE: I think I might be a tad too brutal with my Chasen...the ends of two of the tines have been broken off
Re: Show Off Your Pots and Cups XI
I saw your three Chaozhous in the other thread, they're very beautiful and this pot of mine looks like one of their family. I'm completely convinced now that I have a Chao Zhou, which makes it even more special. I'm glad they're suited to young Pu-erhs, because that's all I can afford at the moment! I have three 357g cakes en route from China to learn on, one ripe and two raw. I'm really impressed with everyone's knowledge on the various topics floating around here, and I appreciate the excellent replies to my query.I just got my first Chao Zhou pots on the weekend and they are wonderful. Re: Show Off Your Pots and Cups XI
Since I've been drinking a lot of dan congs as of late I decided to jump on the chao zhou wagon to see if it will make a difference. Have some great Da Wu Zi (thanks Imen!) that I would love to try with my new pot. Btw Imen just added teapots to the site. I purchased this minutes ago.

Yuuki-cha has 10% off through the 31st. I got a beautiful new darker chasen there. I bought my first on ebay, but it was a good one 120 tine and Japanese.
You might try Den's too and they have that Matcha Miyabi.
