here are three kamakura/ muromaki era tokoname bowls...

Re: Bizen, shino & other teaware appreciation anyone?
But maybe someone can help identify the box and mark of my 2 bowls?:)
Re: Bizen, shino & other teaware appreciation anyone?
Fuut, you might try to ask Toru from Artistic Nippon if he's ever seen the seal before since he deals in Tokoname teaware.
Re: Bizen, shino & other teaware appreciation anyone?

Bizen, shino & other teaware appreciation anyone?
So interesting. It begs to be held and studied, while full of tea...
Re: Bizen, shino & other teaware appreciation anyone?
I refuse to let this topic die. Too much jinxing for my taste and not enough yaki
Bizen chawan by Masashi Shibaoka. I have 3 Bizen chawan and this one is the most special in my opinion.

I love the interior of that one.....
The veins of color at the bottom must be lovely viewed through ripples of tea.Fuut wrote:

Most people drink matcha from bowls like this. You can't see anything through the tea.debunix wrote:I love the interior of that one.....The veins of color at the bottom must be lovely viewed through ripples of tea.Fuut wrote:

Ah right. Apologies as i tend to be short (in writing not in photo's).Tead Off wrote:Maybe you can tell us why you feel the way you do about this bowl?
So like i said i have 3 Bizen chawan, but this on out of the three is most special, or unique or pleasant to the eyes. What speaks to me is that this bowl is a mix of Bizen aspects, from the blue smooth side to the rougher sides, even one part where you can see the path of the flames in a deeper purple hue (I'll see if i can get a decent photo of that in here), to the red straw marks on the interior, this speaks to me for its variety.
The size is like spot on for what i imagine a Bizen bowl to be like. The outside is polished, but personally i think this enhances the aesthetic appearance. The koudai for me finishes this off, being slightly off-center, leaning towards the (in my eyes), flawless signature
