Very nice.
That chawan is a pagasari, isn't it? How is it? I don't know, to me some of his stuff just looks too angry.

Yes indeed. A wonderful resource; if only it didn't eat into the bank account so much!Space Samurai wrote:I'm just guessing, but it looks like someone likes Artistic Nippon.![]()
Thanks, Space. That means a lot coming from someone with a very nice collection too!Space Samurai wrote:Very, very nice collection. Is that kuro raku in the back the new one from there as well? If it is, I've been curious what someone thinks about it.
The kuro raku isn't from Artistic Nippon, but I suspect it's quite similar. I like it a lot and it's astonishingly light in the hands, even when in use.

Yes it is, Buzz. I only got that fairly recently. I'm very pleased with it, and really love the depth of colour in it, especially the beautiful interior. However, it's considerably smaller than my other chawan and much heavier. I'd say it weighed at least twice what the hagi chawan in the front right of the picture weighs.Buzz Fledderjohn wrote:That chawan is a pagasari, isn't it? How is it? I know what you mean about some of the work seeming 'angry'. This piece stuck out for me as something a little more restrained, and with a more traditional shape. I suspect that, in time, I will admire it more and use it less than my other pieces.
Excessive! Are you seeking professional help?brianlavelle wrote:

brianlavelle, I love your collection and do not find it at all excessive.
Perhaps it's time to start up a Chawanholics Anonymous.
By the way, that lovely hagi teabowl in the front - did you buy it through Magokorodo by any chance? I've been wondering whether it was by Deishi. In any case, the shape is really nice. (Ido is really growing on me!)
Your yusamashi are also very attractive. (Hmm, sounds like a pickup line...)

Well, sign me up...chamekke wrote:Perhaps it's time to start up a Chawanholics Anonymous.
No, it's actually from Artistic Nippon, but is a Deishi piece and was very reasonably priced too (some of the Magokorodo prices are jaw-dropping!). It's a joy to prepare matcha in and to drink from. In fact I think I will have some now!By the way, that lovely hagi teabowl in the front - did you buy it through Magokorodo by any chance? I've been wondering whether it was by Deishi. Why, thank you chamekke. [nervously sidles away from the forum...]Your yusamashi are also very attractive. (Hmm, sounds like a pickup line...)
Nice collection. Hopefully someday I'll be up there with ya. Someday...brianlavelle wrote:Hello everyone. I've not been here long, but am enjoying the discussions greatly - and even more so the wonderful pictures!
Here's my collection of Japanese tea ware, taken tonight to post on another forum. I missed a few small items, but this is the bulk of it:

New yixing pot
Well, I just recieved my new Yixing teapot. It allegedly is an early "Yi-Gong" ROC Yixing pot made of extinct Zhuni of Dahongpao, and all indications suggests that it it is an earlier piece made of zhuni. It has crawl marks everywhere and a nice clear 'bell' sound when tapped. As for it's age, well before I cleaned it, there were some mineral deposits inside the breath hole " lid knob' and in the spout which is a good indication that it does has some age. Early Republic of China?? Well, I don't know. The "work" style seems to be of that era but you can never tell. The pictures are of the the pot after a long soak in a 'secret solution' Kidding.. I soaked it in Denture tabs and removed the mineral deposits with long soak in baking soda and carbonic acid.
