05 and 06. The former was great. The latter, just good. Curious about the 2010. It's been out for a while--why the rush to purchase?

I don't see the point of rushing to buy yue chen yue xiang... who cares? There's a million other similar things out there.

I concur. I understand that Dayi is a big focus of auhckw's collecting sensibility, but what's going on is just inflation's impact on this year's tea prices and availability. Far better to get 2007 Dayi ripes, and anything earlier if you can afford it. If something's hyped to be hard to get and expensive (but what is a fairly standard product), one has to focus on getting other things while they are cheaper than they should be.

I think it was mentioned before that people can get Dayi at much better prices in Malaysia than people in the West. In this sense it can be a nice idea for people there to stock up new Dayi for themselves to enjoy in the future (as long as they like Dayi). A lot of people in China do this too.

On the other hand, I think Dayi is really spoiled by people in recent years. I am waiting to see what their peak prices can be and what's their record number of new products issued in a year

To follow Mr. Chip's foot steps and play devil's advocate ...
Why would any one stock up Dayi stuff for the main collection of choice? Are they really that good? Its like stocking up TenRen tea, I am not saying TenRen has bad tea, but they are very accessible.

I agree with you. My day of rushing to collect recently produced big factories tea is over.

For Yue Chen Yue Xiang 2010, the price we get here is about US11.

Is Dayi really that good? It ain't that bad for the price we get here... I am not sure whey people don't like Dayi upon hearing the name. I have tasted other brands and even premium grades pu of the same year... but if compare price:quality:collection value:packaging, dayi performs quite well. So I think it really comes down to what price you can get... If too expensive, no point. If price is right, why not?

Like they say, drink what you like... I keep what i like too for personal satisfaction.

PS: Not all Dayi tea is hot selling. Some are left there for many years and still not sold. Some are just hot. I am not sure why... Another hot dayi is their 2010 70th anniversary -raw. Sold out upon arrival. But their 70th anniversary -ripe is not popular and still available.

Another example, Dayi 0772 that I bought few days ago. I managed to get for USD8 off the shelf. Compared to DTH selling for USD19.90 (not including delivery charges).

The taste I think is worth the USD8. So why not? If it is priced at DTH, I would think twice.

Dayi is widely available, no doubt... but the price is not cheap when it is aged cause people tend to sell it expensive as it aged. The best time to buy is when is brand new. The markup price difference is just too ridiculous at times when it is aged. Eg. 1 piece of 0622 (2006) -660g can nearly buy 1 toong of 0622 (2008) -400g.

Still, man...we understand. It's just that...compared to a chen yun...

You could get tons and tons of '10 Hong Yun round bricks, and those are far, far more likely to deliver uniquely tasty shu in the future for drinking or resale. Your purchase of the '09 Dragon Pole, for example, is a pretty good example of a good purchase of much good quality Dayi. Good year, good recipe.

Also, Menghai Dayi is definitely known to play games with local scarcity in certain markets to brew up a buzz. The whole setup with the "Hey this stuff (something that's really common and many years are easily available) is selling like rice is going out of style!" and buying a tong without tasting...It just feels like someone is gaming you.

The chen yun 2010 is sheng / raw.

And yes, I do agree that the buying without tasting is not quite good practice. So far this is my 2nd time. Both occasion is due to no sample, but I just felt that I wanted to collect it. Price wasn't that expensive to begin with, so I guess buying without sampling is ok. Of course if those that are expensive, I do drink before deciding to buy. At times, I drink a few occasions before buying.

That said, don't get me wrong and think I am a die hard fan boy for Dayi cause i'm not. I do collect other teas but less, and at the moment I drink more non dayi cause my dayi collections are still farely young to enjoy.

This tea this year is not called 7742 because its custom made by dayi. But the recipe is same as the 05,06 and 07 7742.The tea is made from aged leaves (3 years or older).
I have the 2006 - 7742 and the taste is excellent.
I too bought this tea for future aging to drink.
This is the first release by Dayi in a 42pcs bamboo basket and bamboo stack ,and the price is so cheap why not.

I for one have 101 types different factories old tea but I still prefer Dayi's taste of aged tea.So my collection went dayi's way.I do undertand why many replies were sent on why buy so much.Well its very cheap here compared to what you guys buy online. And if the tea is good why not buy more.In 10 years time I am willing to share with anyone this 7742 (2010) from dayi. Why? because I bought it cheap.
