Thanks, Seeker. He has a twin, though one eye remains open while the other's shut. They're the first and only pair I've come across by Seigan. Nice breakfast; I'm sure it was delicious.
Fantastic glaze, David. I never knew chawans could react that way with hot water! Regardless, great piece.
This is a fun & insightful 'MatchaWan' thread.

Thought I'd give direct window light a try.

I shall have to try direct window light; it creates an epic portrait!
Here's one of my prized Kyo-yaki chawans, depicting a Heian court lady. The backside features kanji, referencing an excerpt from "The Tale of Genji." The script, as well as her delicate features, are hand-painted with gold. I'd love to know its translation!

That is so lovely. I wish I could help with the translation, but calligraphy and I do not understand each other...I can only make out random bits and pieces, and they're mostly just syllables or non-useful words like "of".

Thanks, Karmaplace. I'd love to learn Japanese someday.

Beautiful "MatChawan"-s everyone!

Broke out this remarkable Cory Lum Tenmok/Oil Spot chawan, but before I could capture the Kaoro organic matcha in it, the batteries died. But did manage to take a few prelim pics.

Thanks, it really is spectacular with neon green matcha in it. But aren't all chawan-s?
