Thursday TeaDay 7/16/09 TeaWare origin lessons?

by Chip » Jul 16th, '09, 01:45

Welcome everyone to TeaDay. Please stop in throughout the day and share what is in your cup.

Yesterday the overwhelming majority of responders indicated they had a desire to learn about the region or at least country of your favorite tea. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. TeaLessons continue. Today we ask if you have a desire to learn more about the region(s) where your fave teawares originate? Please share with us.

I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

Oh yes, I am fascinated with the region where my tea ware is from, because I'm obsessed with following the "authentic" way of enjoying that particular region's tea. I'm researching chawan for my upcoming foray into matcha, and it's totally reminding me of my Japanese art history class.

I'm fascinated with the unpredictable nature of creating Raku-ware. Some artisans make placed hot Raku ware into straw or submerging it into cold water, which affects how the glaze turns out. I'm seeing reproductions of Koetsu's Mount Fuji, which I would really want to buy, but they're too expensive and I probably wouldn't appreciate it.

Yes, some modest interest, especially if you consider the country of origin instead of the specific region of origin, for instance China, rather than Yixing.

Having a late YM session! third infusion... I'd love to know more about many places, teaware has pushed me towards a new interest in Japan and China. Geographic features influence me even more though when learning about a place. Love mountains and deserts.

Nope. At least, not in any way that is more desirous of learning about one area more than another.

Yesterday was a terrible tea day... only time for one cup. Today's looking like it might be a little better.

I would like to visit Guangdong and see the Chao Zhou stove being used.

Even more perhaps I would like to wander round some of Aaron's paintings, and having crossed by a waterfall, to a rocky ledge stumble upon a tea sage brewing up in the wild serenity.
Best wishes from Cheshire

not yet...I'm happy with banko clay teapots that season. Aside from that traditional form, I like supporting contemporary artists, regardless of location (which is more affordable). But as I get "deeper" into tea..who knows?

made a "perfect cup" of Uji Miyabi today. Yay!

Yes I am interested, but more so in learning by visiting than reading.

In my cup this morning CS Darjeeling Oolong. Another busy day ahead.

Have a nice day everyone!

Eh, currently my favorite teaware is a teapot I painted myself at one of those "paint your own clayware" places and a few cat-themed mugs that have been given to me, so I guess I fall into the "maybe" category, as in "maybe when I have teaware from some specific country/region, I will give a hoot about it."

When it comes to new knowledge... I'm pretty much a "Yes" man. Whatever, whenever, wherever. I want to know. Especially pertaining to tea, technology, and cultures!

In my cup this morning: Earl Grey de la Creme

just had some of the Costco Ito Matcha teabags, bitter but a good compromise at work. It's funny, my co-worker saw them and bought them for me based on my obsession with green tea!

Started off with a Lapsung Souchong (China Black) this morning. Wow, that woke up the taste buds, nice tea... but I should have picked something more mellow at first.

ARGH, what is the deal with the spammers today??

I keep meaning to look up where exactly the Yunnan region of China is, but that's about the extent of my interest.

Irish breakfast tea in my pot this morning.
Although my neighbors are all barbarians,
And you, you are a thousand miles away,
There are always two cups on my table.
