by Chip » Jul 21st, '09, 01:44

Greetings TeaFriends. Please stop in and share what is in your cup with us today.

Yesterday most responders shared TEA related idiosyncrasies. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. TeaBudget 2009. TEA ONLY. Are you over or under "budget" for the year? Or if you do not have a "budget" per se, have you spent more or less than anticipated so far this year?

I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

Well, I prefer not to think of a budget and just intend to spend less than ... That system doesn't work very well as I usually spend more than ... but I have had some superb tea this year and I think I might really be spending less than last year ... or at least I hope so. Ah, Chip, you ask such difficult questions!

This Chinese rider seems to be giving the high sign to premium yellow tea.

Don't really have a budget as such, probably spent slightly more than anticipated though.

Started this morning with the last of my Matsukaze Uji Matcha from Lahloo Tea (uk)

Have a good day everyone!

Jack :D

Taking a guess, I'd say I have spent more but I have no budget as such.

Am waiting for my matcha to cool a bit. A little while ago the doorbell rang and I opened to find a Posten employee wanting me to sign for my delivery-my kyusu from France! \o/

I don't have a specific tea budget, but I have definitely spent much more than I thought I would at the beginning of the year. Although in the past month or so I've been able to pull back pretty hard. In fact, I've got one last big pu'erh order to make and then I'm pretty much throttling back to something quite normal and manageable. Having said all that, I never spent over my monthly budget...

This morning... still rolling with an ali shan oolong. Brewed extra, extra, extra strong.

I also have no specific tea budget, but if I did, I'm pretty sure I'd have spent considerably less so far this year. I haven't been exploring much, just enjoying my usual fare.

White Symphony is definitely part of my usual fare, and by a strange coincidence, it's what I'm drinking right now! Small world, I guess.

my first time

(My first TeaDay! I'm so excited! :) )

As I'm sure you all know—or knew many years ago—it's no easy thing for an enthusiastic new tea drinker to keep the expenses down, but I've been pretty stingy, and I'm not broke yet!

I'm awaiting a bag of peppermint, so I think I'll work on my 'Casablanca Twist'. I love you, Camellia, but Minthe's nice too.

By the way, I just formally introduced myself in the forum nextdoor.

Looking forward to many more teadays with you all,
Jacob.

I don't really have a tea budget so I can't answer this one. I just replace it as needed...which happens pretty often in this house. :?

Irish Breakfast this morning, via Twining's bags. Am on the road and I shudder at the hotel offerings.

tea expenses

by lakewaves222 » Jul 21st, '09, 09:20

I consider tea , an investment in my health . So I buy mostly organics and fair trade teas , so I don't mind spending excessively if need be. I don't usually buy rare teas or the very high grades , but once in awhile I do, like a sencha or gyokuro and a few pricey pu-erh's.. I do keep a pretty extensive portfolio of teas and try to use them all to keep from using up all my sencha

More. I've spent more.

When I started 2009, I had but 35 different teas. Now I have approaching 350!

Oddly, most of my expense is going into new teaware, and not into the teas themselves. O_o

In my cup this morning: Date flavored black tea by 52teas.

I'm always over budget, and not just for the year, every pay day I spend more than I was "planning." I always think: "Well, it's only ten bucks more than I was planning..." "Well, it's only fifteen bucks more than I was planning..." "I'll take five dollars off of my next tea money." (Which I've never done. :) )

So, yes, definitely over, pretty much every time.

This morning - Genmai Cha.

Far less than expected so far, maybe £150 on tea so far this year.

Planning on a few orders in the next week or two. Time to go closer to home and try a few UK vendors for a change.
