Thursday TeaDay 7/23/09 New fave this year?

by Chip » Jul 23rd, '09, 00:52

Good TeaDay fellow tea drinkers. I hope everyone is becoming familiar with the "new forum." It seems several of our TeaFriends got "left behind" in the big move yesterday. Let's hope Ilya is able to "save them."

Yesterday the hot topic was naturally the new forum. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. This year, have you discovered a new absolute favorite tea...whether it is a class, type, or even a specific selection? Please share with us.

I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

Takumi Shincha

by Salsero » Jul 23rd, '09, 01:01

I have discovered the "second tier" Japanese teas this year: bancha, hojicha, genmaicha, etc., but they haven't become favorites. Plain old sencha, such as the Takumi Shincha in the photo awkwardly uploaded below, still hold a higher place in my esteem.

What an interesting teapot, Sal. I don't recall seeing it before, although my memory is notoriously short. :)

New favorite? Hmmm, maybe the Dong Ding from FLT. I hadn't much luck with them in the past, but this one is really nice. I can finally understand why they are so popular.

I think I have an obsession with Matcha, and the worst part is...I'm still waiting for my order to arrive. My desperation has led me to calculate [i]exactly[/i] when my orders are going to arrive. Since it's shipping out this Friday by EMS, I'm guessing it'll be here by next Wednesday or Thursday.

I'm afraid that I've created all these expectations about Matcha that when I finally get down to it, I might be disappointed. If so, at least I have a gorgeous Chawan to admire.

Smilies/Quotes/Italics still aren't working for me on TeaDay, but they work on the other threads...

So I rediscovered a tea from my child hood and the tea would be Genmai Cha. It was my favorite tea and never knew where I could get it nor did I know what it was. This year I really got into tea thanks to Adagio. So is it a new fave well we'll say a old/new fave of the year.

No I do not have a new favorite although my interest in Chinese greens has been growing this year.

Keemun Mao Feng Imperial this morning.

PS: BBCode is OFF for me in this Teaday Post (but not in the other sections of the forum.)

Odd, says it is on.

You can add it to the Feedback list.

I guess it is on only for you (it was the same yesterday). Maybe it is because of the poll or because you prepare the teaday post in a draft section and then transfer it in teaday?

Mmm, the new style adds an element of intrigue to quotes and replies.

I wonder if this will all turn to quote boxes when they get the BBCode working in this section? ;)

Pu'erh is still my favorite, though I suppose kombucha has jumped up highly in the rankings recently... we'll see how long that lasts, though :D

As for this morning, I'm having an ali shan. I've been way too busy lately to have any free time. Hopefully that changes this weekend!

No change for me, still a white tea fanatic. If it works, don't fix it etc.
Today is a Silver Needle day. Yay!
