Friday TeaDay 7/31/09 Best tea of July?

by Chip » Jul 31st, '09, 00:10

Happy Friday and welcome everyone to TeaDay. Please do stop in and share what is in your cup this TeaDay.

Yesterday we discussed how well we can recall teas we've had in the past. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. July comes to an end and with it we answer what has been the best tea of the past month. So, what was your best tea for the month of July? Please share details with us.

I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Like what you drink, drink what you like.

I really enjoyed trying Dong Ding. I had two types from Floating Leaves, one was a winter 2008, one was a traditional. I liked them both. I would like to try a stronger roast next I think...

I'm catching this early, it's still Thursday night for me, but right now I'm drinking some glass brewed no name green. I'm liking it a lot.

OK, the new forum glitches prevented me from editing my OP, so, might be a few errors ... beginning with the title that was cut off.

Should read, "Please share your best tea of July with us."

I guess for July I've really been enjoying Japanese Black Koucha from Yuuki-cha. In fact, I got my reorder yesterday, I plan to put some away. Seems like it will keep well being a black and vacuum sealed. Very smooth, a lovely tea.

I have a new-found obsession with things Japanese, especially tea and tea-ware. I think I've found a new passion. It hasn't been a week since my first matcha experience, and I'm already looking for my next Chawan (a Hagi).

Enjoying some organic Fukamushi from O-Cha. I think of the three levels of steamed, I enjoy Fukamushi the most.

What does kombucha qualify as? I suppose it originally started as a Chinese tea... hrm. I spent most of the month with some oolongs and kombucha. Definitely in a TeaRut(R).

Speaking of which, I've been nursing this anxi oolong all week!

Chinese tea for me, Yunnan, specifically.

Assam tea used to be my favorite, and now it just tastes odd...

'Morning, everyone!

This month goes to Taiwan and Li Shan Cha which is a fantastic high mountain oolong, this is one of the best teas I have ever tasted.
A very close second place, if not equal, is Gyokuro Tsuru Jiru Shi. This gyokuro is simply amazing.

Having Li Shan Cha now.

-edit-

Just curious: Why is my post count static? It does not increase.

I just did test posts in TD in my name and then in Olivier's, each time the post count increased. So, please retry I guess and let me know.

According to wikipedia, "The recorded history of kombucha began in Ukraine and Russia during the late 19th century."

I tried a powerful tasty 2008 Rou Gui from Seven Cups. It wasn't exactly a refreshing summer beverage, but it was goooood. Very chocolatey, with an aroma that just flew up into my nose. Later infusions reminded me of sweet baked goods, along with some fruit notes I couldn't place.

Got it in a wuyi sampler. I love samplers.

Never heard of Seven Cups before, so I just checked them out. They have a HUGE selection.
Do you typically like what you get from them?

A lot of great teas in the month, but this Yame Gyo from Lupicia is certainly among the best. Put a tiger in your tank.
