2007 Mengyang Guoyan Yiwu Zheng Shan Arbor Cake

by Salsero » Aug 25th, '09, 01:51

I drink tea with food so seldom that I don't feel I can answer. I am very interested to get some ideas today from our other members, however, with an eye toward auditioning some combos.

Hop_Goblin reviews this sheng at Ancient Tea Horse Road. Each cake is numbered by hand, an unusual feature of this particular production.

Growing up and eating at ALOT of Dim Sum, Pu'Er with chrysanthemum tea was the standard combination (does anybody else drink their Pu'Er like this?). I find that it goes well with oily foods, but I don't usually drink tea with food, because I find that the latter usually mutes the flavor/aroma of the former. Of course, I think Matcha would go really well with nice dark chocolate

Enjoying some Bei Dou Wuyi...it's the end of summer when I start craving more roasted Oolong and start shying away from green teas.

It depends a lot on what food I'm eating...I really like having tea while and right after I eat.

I'll usually have lightly roasted oolongs or a bai mu dan with light foods like fresh fruit. Green tea or young sheng puerh with fresh tasting foods like salads and chicken. Darjeeling or Keemun with heavy breakfast foods like fried eggs and pancakes. Smokey teas like Yunnan blacks and Lapsang Souchong or heavy roasted teas like Wu Yi Yancha and Houjicha with meat, potatoes, and spicy foods.

Hehehe, well I took a different route for this question... I went w/ black tea because I figured that iced tea (and especially sweet tea) must go with everything.

:D

I am continuing with the 1999 Menghai that I started yesterday. It has a nice woodiness to it, but it also has something to it that reminds me of either rancidness or feet. I may be imagining it, though, it's hard for me to say. Yes, I'm sorry, I'm sure you didn't want to be reading that... :D

Agree with all the shupu votes. A billion Chinese can't be wrong.

I concur with Drax, though oolong was a close 2nd because it can be close to both the black and the green teas depending on the type.

I don't normally drink tea with food unless dining out in an Asian restaurant. In those cases it is most often oolong (Taiwanese or Thai), but it is sometimes Pu or Japanese green.

Tie Luo Han was my breakfast tea this morning.

Think I'm going to go with black tea. I'm also going to have to go with the British and their whole black-tea-with-a-morning-fry-up. I've had black tea with eggs, bacon, and toast at breakfast. I've had black tea with fish and chips at dinner. I've had black tea with turkey sandwiches and potato chips at lunch. I think that black goes well with many foods because a lot of other teas would be overpowered by the flavor of what you're eating at the time. When it comes to oolongs or greens, I don't tend to eat while drinking them, unless I'm at a restaurant and that's what's being served (not that I'd complain about drink tea!) I'd be interested in finding some green tea pairings, as that seems to be the direction that my tea addiction is taking me, but for the purposes of this morning's topic, I feel that black is the more versatile when it comes to food, imho.

This morning - Glass brewing some Ali Shan from Adagio.
Beautiful :) The picture does not do it justice.

For the way that I eat it would usually be black tea (iced). But I find myself mostly having a green tea of some sort with breakfast. Today it's several infusions of a Ceylon tea, Oliphant Gardem Mao Feng.

Since I have been enjoying sushi/sashimi so much lately, and they do a nice genmaicha presentation with a tetsubin and "sushi cups," and since genmai stands up really well to food, and since it is relatively inexpensive, yeah, genmaicha. I would not eat a meal with a really good sencha.

Began the TD with Kunpu from Den's. I am still enjoying remnants of shincha. This is a lovely asamushi. SweeTea agreed while Wulong and Precious would not know asamushi from fukamushi.

I enjoy white tea the most with my oatmeal breakfast. I try to avoid drinking tea with other meals for fear of taking away from the taste.

Chingwo county orange peko today.
