Traveling Teaware?

by skywarrior » Aug 30th, '09, 22:32

I'm curious as to what you use for your teaware when you travel. I use https://xiuxiantea.merchantsecure.com/i ... 080034.jpg as my traveling tea pot with a container of loose tea. What do you bring? I travel both by air and car, so I have to pack lightly (at least for the airplane).

If I'm staying at a friend's house where I know I'll have access to a kitchen, I'll bring my IngenuiTEA brewer and a tin of loose leaf. If I'm staying in a hotel, I usually take the easy way out and go with higher-end bagged tea. Takes up less room in my suitcase and it's easier to brew in a pinch. Even if there's not a microwave in my room, there's usually hot water available near the coffee service downstairs. It's not as good, certainly, but it's only for a few days usually.

For a few days traveling light I take a gaiwan and some tea as I can usually find hot water and a cup.

Other than that I tend to crank it up to whatever I can get away with.

I bring a few of my less favorite teapots and a gaiwan. A few cups, and a Bodum Mini Ibis water heater. Its plastic but better than trying to use the hotel coffee maker. I bring a few different puerhs and some Iron Bodhisattva
Classic Roast from the Tea Gallery. I wrap the teapots and everything in some bubble wrap. It doesn't take up much room in the suitcase and it weighs very little. A lot of it fits inside the water heater. It's worth it to me to have a little of the comfort of home when traveling.

I don't have a picture, but if you go to the Bodum web site under tea, and then under electric products you will see the Mini Ibis. It's not perfect, but I have gotten a lot of use out of it. I've used it all over Europe too, (I bring a voltage converter) Probably could buy something like it just to use in Europe and not have to bring the converter. Though, in Europe some of the hotels do have some sort of tea kettle to boil water.
