Monday TeaDay 8/31/09 Fave musical instrument?

by Chip » Aug 30th, '09, 23:44

Happy TeaDay everyone. I hope you will stop in and share what is in your cup throughout the day.

Yesterday we had a TeaRoom TeaDay and shared fave bands. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today, hmmm, why not, I have been wondering this as well. We can goof off on TeaDay since it is Monday and get off the TeaTopic again. Do you have a favorite instrument(s) in listening or playing? And yeah, please share.

I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

I don't really have a favorite instrument to listen to, though I find the harp and bagpipes (when done right) interesting to hear...

Decidedly piano ... classical, especially 19th century, but I have also heard a small amount of jazz piano I have liked and some blues. Second place is probably acoustic guitar.

Definitely piano for me. Chopin or Jerry Lee. Love it all.
Had tea late, I hope I can sleep, it was worth it though.

Killer Question!

by Intuit » Aug 31st, '09, 00:57

There is no one answer here.

First choice would have to be a stringed instrument - guitar is one of the few that can display so many and varied moods with ease and class. With the exception of a unaccompanied voice, the guitar is without parallel for emotive plasticity over a wide range of musical genres.

But for shear jaw-dropping presence: full-tilt major league room shaking four-manual organ. It's the one instrument that can evoke singularly or en-orchestra, all of the possible voices of an ensemble over an enormous decibel range.

For therapeutic purposes, the drum. You can sit *anybody* down with one and teach them the basics, and have them quickly inducing calming alpha waves in a trace-inducing group rhythm workshop that works little miracles for re-gearing a spent and damaged CNS, in a way somewhat similar to meditation and singing.

Finished my day with a soothing herbal blend.

I enjoy the human voice. Again, early vocal music. Early stringed instruments (guitar, lute, etc) come in a close second.

I'm continuing with this 1997 cooked Menghai pu'erh. It came so densely packed that the leaves are taking their time in loosening, and the brew is staying darker much longer. . . very nice.

Tough call, but mostly orchestral versions of string which stirs emotions deep within me, brass which awakens my senses, and woodwind which soothes my soul. I can enjoy these in the traditional or the more modern applications.

Then there are the traditional intrumentals of Japan and even China that I am just beginning to scratch the surface.

Began the TD with Magokoro from Yuuki-Cha, an excellent organic falling between chu and fukamushi. SweeTea quite enjoyed hers as Wulong and Gandalf quite enjoyed cat treats.

+1 Tough call for me too, will have to give this more thought.
After such a hectic last week, my mind is still a bit fuzzy and I know I am not yet thinking straight, let alone up to making decisions.

We have a funeral to attend this morning of a very dear friend, so that currently is on my mind. Be back later today with an decision and to share tea.

Kazoo... definitely the kazoo.

Actually I think it's too tough to call... but guitar would most likely edge out piano by a hair. Acoustic or rocked-out electric slide, I do love guitar music... but what makes it a really tough call is that to me, most instruments sound better in harmony with other instruments, and not as stand-alones. The piano is probably my favorite stand-alone.

The last of my Glendale Handmade this morning.

Chip and Mrs... sorry for the lost of your old friend. <hugs>

Yeah, I think so: The violin.
It's haunting, and I like that.

Not really, no. I enjoy the sounds of most instruments, period. It's their application that sometimes turns me off. I will admit a special fondness for heavy guitar and a good, though imperfect, voice.

Soon to be in my cup: Tencha-Houji Kukicha from Den's.

The piano. I haven't played much piano for the past five years but I could spend hours playing it (up to six hours per day during the school vacations). Mostly classical music from 19th and 20th century.

Ippodo shincha today.
