Current Jing offerings?

by Bubba_tea » Sep 9th, '09, 12:25

Last year I chugged through an order from Jing - the Ba Xian and Xing Ren were awesome, as was the everyday #3 Shui Xian and the seasonal DHP (IIRC) so I was going to put in another order.

I was looking at the selection and the xing ren and ba xian are up a bit on price it seems so I was wondering if anyone has tried them yet and could comment. Also, has anyone recently compared the Imperial vs. Seasonal DHP?

I recently ordered 8 teas from jingteashop, 4 - 100 grams, 4 - 25 grams samples, I am satisfied with their quality, the descriptions are accurate, and the high quality is high... Anyway I have Seasonal DHP, it lacks the depth, I have their Shui jing gui, that is better, and I have their Mi Lan Dancong AAA, that is my first real Dancong, and I am sorry I said that DC is bitter and drys my mouth, with this one I had a revelation, it is intensly aromatic, and it resist a bit of overbrewing too (instead of 10 - 15 seconds I can do 30 seconds too).

I enjoyed the Single Bush Milan Dancong AAA so much I ordered a kilo of last year's harvest.

I plan to age it indefinitely drinking once a year :)

I haven't tried any of this years wuyi's which seems to be what you're most interested in but the An Xi Rou Gui I sampled was really awesome :)

From the An Xi side, I'm currently enjoying some Xiang Hua TGY.
Nice full body, balanced between floral and sweet.

You like them all because you are ordering from a high quality vendor.
:) I've never had a bad oolong from Jing.

I just tasted through my order from them - see my notes inline below..

-- 1 X Anxi Da Ping Competition Grade Mao Xie - 100g @ $12.00 = $12.00
this was ok, very green, I expected better due to the 'grade' but
forgot to look at the price (cheaper)... ;)

-- 1 X Qi Lan oolong tea - 100g @ $14.80 = $14.80
my favorite of the order, yum but needs lots of leaf

-- 1 X Xiang Hua Tie Guan Yin - 25g @ $5.60 = $5.60
ok I guess, very very green. I must be warming to TGYs if I like this. heh

-- 1 X Traditional Wu Yi Shui Xian - 100gr @ $25.50 = $25.50
bad, flat, no mouth feel, yuck

I would only consider reordering the Qi Lan, but I wouldn't call it 'special' so probably wont.

I tried the Seasonal DHP the other day. The aroma, and finish were quite nice, but the taste was lacking. Though I still think it is a good tea.

I have a plastic bin full of other teas to try from them, and can't wait, but I'm out of ways to store them so I need to finish off some older teas.

I haven't tried their latest seasonal DHP. The last one I had was a 2007 and you couldn't find a better DHP for the money. DHP needs a bit of aging.

The Mao Xie, for the money, is worth a try.

Oni, glad to hear you got to try a good Dancong. Night and day difference between higher and lower grades.

I'm still sticking with organics and Jing offers many.

Single Bush Milan Dancong AAA and 2003 Anxi Xi Ping Aged Tie Guan Yin are both wonderful. In my last order there was a 7 g sample of Huang Jin Gui. I usually don't like very green oolongs bit this was really nice. I brewed it in gaiwan and at one point the tea soup had really wonderful "perfume smell", like one of those "water" or "aqua" perfumes.

I know this is an oolong thread, but Jing's black (red) Jiu Qu Hong Mei is very good. It's fruity and smooth and no bitterness at all. Here's Bearsblog review of the tea from 2007 harvest:

Hmmm... well, thanks for the notes Tenuki - sounds very, meh... From recent experience I know what adding kids to your life does to your obsessions... in other words, sounds like I might check out Hou De for now and a reorder from FLT.
