Good TeaDay to all, well a TeaRoom TeaDay. Please share what is in your cup with us throughtout the day.
Yesterday we discussed our comfort level and possible enjoyment in demonstrating tea. You can stilll vote and discuss yesterday's topic.
Today's TeaRoom goes to the movies, PART ONE, please stay on topic ... and have some fun! OK, way off the TeaTopic today, but The Wizard of Oz hit the silver screen 70 years ago. I am thinking that many of us have some memory of growing up and watching this golden oldie. Character development, did/do you have a most memorable character? Thanks to Mrs. Chip for this one.
I am looking forward to following the Yellow Brick Road with everyone today.

Off to France, see you in a fortnight, not so much tea as the for me now.
Re: Saturday TeaRoom 9/19/09 "Ding Dong" ... and wicked witches?
The wizard of oz was way before my time. When I was growing up I remember watching it but wasn't ever a big fan. Its my moms favorite movie. Musicals arn't really my thing I was more into the Terminator, predator or action movies growing up.
going to bed so no tea yet this morning

The flying monkeys always freaked me out, but Dorothy Gale stood out as the most memorable for me. I loved the books growing up, too. We're coming up on the 110th anniversary of the first!
This morning, I've got CNNP 7581 shou in my cup. It's helping to take some of the grumpiness off of this cold.

"If I only had a braaaaaaain~"'
The Scarecrow was the one I always remembered, all uncoordinated and bumbling. His song, I think, was one of the best.
As for tea, nothing yet today- I just woke up.

I voted Cowardly Lion, though no single character stands out more than others.
Several years ago, I saw a planetarium laser show where they demonstrated how Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon synched perfectly with Wizard of Oz. I was completely blown away, and purchased the DVD of the movie so I could try it myself at home. I live for weird stuff like this.
Ti Kuan Yin this morning.

As much as I generally do not like Hollywood musicals, The Wizard of Oz has always been perhaps the most memorable movie of all time for me. Growing up, TWoO was a big annual event as it was only aired once every year on TV. I have likely watched it 30 or more times and could watch it again ... and again.
The most memorable character, a tough call. But the Wicked Witch wins out for me, not my fave character, but certainly the most memorable. I think my first exposure to an evil character as a bean sprout.
Began the TD with Yutaka Midori from O-Cha. SweeTea appreciated the rich umami of this tea whle Wulong and Pyrit said "Uma who?"

I thought Toto was cute. Never was too fond of this story.
Has anyone read/seen Wicked? I keep meaning to get around to it...
"Yunnan Misc" in the pot this morning, a blend of Yunnan Gold, Yunnan Noir, Yunnan Jig--using up the ends of the tins. It's surprisingly good.

I loved the books, too, which I read for the first time when I read them to my children. The books really brought out the notion that the world was still so uncharted (which it was at the time) that it was possible to discover new places and civilizations hidden around the world.Drax wrote:I loved the books growing up, too. My favorite character was Professor Marvel. He was worldly, clever, outgoing, and a bit of a sham, but he was also wise and kind. He kindness even extended to animals. Remember when he shared his meal with Toto? ``One dog to another?''
I finished last night with tencha from Hibiki-an. My breakfast tea today is Fenghuang oolong from Foojoy.

Ray Bolger as the Scarecrow, I suppose. The castle guards and the monkeys scared me way too much to enjoy.
Continuing on today with a 2003 Jing Mai puerh that I started last night.

As a child, I was terrified of the Wicked Witch and used to hide behind the furniture when she appeared on the TV. Now she's my favourite character. Such zest and energy!
I also like the (seldom quoted) coda to her final words I'm melting! I'm melting!, namely the disconsolate Oh, what a world, what a world.
Off to tea class in a few minutes. Matcha on the menu. Hey, it's bright green, too. What a coincidence...

Re: Saturday TeaRoom 9/19/09 "Ding Dong" ... and wicked witches?
Oooooh, fun question!!!
Like Chip I grew up with The Wizard of Oz being a big annual event...it was on our black and white TV only once a year. However, probably unlike Chip, it took a lot of years before my sister and I saw the end of the movie!!! When it got to the part with the Wizard, we would scream and have Mom turn off the TV...we were too scared to even go to the TV and turn it off (no remotes back then). So all those years we were put off by some blowhard who turned out to be just a guy hiding behind a facade. Hmmmm, probably a lesson in there somewhere
Yep, I picked "the Wiz". I do remember thinking that we didn't that the good witch didn't get to be seen in the movie nearly enough!
No tea yet today...gotta remedy that soon!
Word from the usps is that my Hagi #4 cup may arrive at my house today!!! We've got errands to run, but I'm gonna lobby for staying right here till the postman comes around. If it is indeed on the truck and I miss it today, I probably won't be able to pick it up till Monday afternoon.

I voted for Elmira Gulch because she was more real to me than her alter-ego, the Wicked Witch. She was so mean!
