Looking for a Green Tea

by mtrddog » Sep 21st, '09, 01:37

I hope you can help me with this question , I just got into drinking tea in the last three months , I love everything about it , so I went to this out of the way tea shop in Oakland and bought some tea , they were very nice to us and they gave me a pack of this green tea for free (and the stuffs not cheap ) and the salesmen was saying it was the best green tea he has ever had and that many chinese love it , now I'm hook on it and it's to die for (thats how much I love it ) , I went thier today to see if I can buy more , he told me no way just didn't have it and didn't know when he would get more , but told me he well try and get more . But I asked him what was it called he told me it was Guan Yin Green Tea and he told me if I go looking around not to confuse it with a Oolong type of Guan Yin also he told me it's spelled in other fashions , now don't get me wrong this guy is a good guy were friends , but he can't speak very good english so my wife and myself were getting this info from him , so I might be wrong in my spelling of this green tea , come someone tell me about it , and also anywere online I can pick it up or if I have all this backwards lead me through the straight path (LOLOLOLOL) thanks sebastian

Lu An Gua Pian is the only green tea that I know that it resembles to Tie Guan Yin, and teasprings Cha Wang grade seams exciting.

mtrddog, did the tea you speak of look like tightly rolled up pellets that were quite green and would unfurl when steeped?

There is an actual green tea version of Ti Guan Yin oolong that I had around 6 or 7 years ago, looked just like the oolong but greener and was lighter tasting, and almost floral. Quite nice actually.

I think I saw this not too long ago somewhere, within the last month or so.

I would advise you to keep trying teas.

There are some teas that I have bought/obtained once...and have never been able to find them again. That's just the nature of tea!

The good news is...there are so many amazing kinds of tea out there and I'm constantly discovering new kinds.

Sample some new things! I recently tried a Yunnan green tea that I loved (it was very smokey, almost like tobacco) and I also am hooked on one called "Chun Mee Dao Ming" which is quite inexpensive. One of my favorite green teas I ever have tried was from Laos...it had both stems and leaves in it...and was outstanding...again, never had anything remotely like it again.
