Does anyone have any experience with storing their loose tea in the ziploc twist and lock containers?
Here is a link to amazon if you wanted to see what I'm talking about: http://bit.ly/3PUpqk
The ziplock website isn't very link friendly.

Could impart a plastic taste/aroma to highly absorbent tea leaves. Also these allow light in to light sensitive tea leaves. And not so sure how airtight they are.
I say nay.

I use mason jars in a dark cabinet. Cheap, easy, and forever

Much better, IMHO.Zanaspus wrote:I use mason jars in a dark cabinet. Cheap, easy, and forever
Some members also wrap foil around their mason jars to block out the light.

I wouldn't trust these containers with tea. I like them for food, but they're noticeably thinner than Rubbermaid containers. They're really just a step up from disposable.
The best tea canisters I have I purchased from Ten Ren. They're stainless steel with a stainless steel inner cover.

foil, why didn't i think of that?! i've been meticulously cutting up paper grocery bags for the last year, cutting them to just the right size to wrap around the half pint/pint jars and tape. foil...so much easier! just slap and wrap. who's been doing the foil, and why haven't i heard of it!?Chip wrote:Much better, IMHO.Zanaspus wrote:I use mason jars in a dark cabinet. I'd stay far away from plastic containers to store tea.

So glad to hear others are using mason jars as well. I just started using them myself, and was a little worried they weren't good enough. I may also try the tin foil trick. Good idea. Although I do store them in a dark cabinet, so I think they're okay.

Quack, no ducks were injured in the making of that "duck tape" I hope! Or duct tape.woozl wrote:Duck tape works too.

-1 for style points though.

I use tea tins for my green, black, and oolong. Some have double lids. I save the small Adagio sample tins, which are great! I also like their lock top tin with hinge, but it has a clear top (says it reflects UV rays, but I don't like it as much). I use plain brown paper bags and yixing clay jars for puerh.

I like tins for tea and never thought to use foil. I stay away from clear plastic, though.

actually, we are using the foil to wrap the mason jars with to block out light. we're not wrapping the tea in foil.judyw wrote:I like tins for tea and never thought to use foil. I stay away from clear plastic, though.
