Welcome to our TeaRoom. Please come in and share what is in your cup with us throughout the day.
Yesterday we discussed horror flicks of all things. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.
Today's TeaRoom poll and topic. Do you "cross brew" and are you cross brewing today? Cross brewing is brewing a tea in a pot from a different country. Have fun discussing and sharing!
I am ooking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

Re: Sunday TeaRoom 10/25/09 Cross brewer?
I sometimes brew white and Chinese green teas in my kyusu, but not this morning. Kyusu are perfect for brewing any type of green, however, I brew only dancong in my little Yixing pot.
Jing's traditional DHP is in my cup and if three thermoses. Today is the first day of the Harlequin duck survey, I'm off until about 8pm tonight.

Re: Sunday TeaRoom 10/25/09 Cross brewer?
I suppose I have cross-brewed, since most of my teaware comes from China. Please don't inform the nations.
This morning I am trying out Adagio's yunnan jig. I brewed it in a Chinese gaiwan, so that's pretty normal, I suppose, but this tea is not. Seems to have a greenish kick to it. I will have to keep investigating.... edit: hrm, upon drinking more, I suppose I could see the 'kick' i'm tasting as a peppery flavoring. . .

Re: Sunday TeaRoom 10/25/09 Cross brewer?
Yeah... all the time. Simply because I frequently utilize American made teawares with Japanese tea. And sometimes Japanese or American teaware with Chinese teas (far more infrequently).
I am guessing that this "crossbrewing" practice is common.... but I will be really interested to see the actual results of this poll.
Oh god.... maybe I am not "normal"!?????

I drink Indian tea and I don't think I've got any Indian teaware, so I must be up to something.
Was going to brew some mao jian in a gaiwan, think I'll go for the kyusu since I've clicked on this topic.
Need to finish the bottle of pink lemonade I've opened first, it's been a long while.

I do a lot but mostly because it is the clean one at the time. I do sometimes make it a point to match tea to pot but mostly I go where ever my day takes me.
Re: Sunday TeaRoom 10/25/09 Cross brewer?
Yes I do it all the time. Tokoname kyusu and Hagi cups for oolongs all the time. This morning Camellia Sinensis AliShan in my sansei Hagi bowl.
Quite delightful.

Yes, I am a cross-brewer!
Nilgiri Chamraj brewed in an Adagio PersonaliTea (probably made in China, although not Chinese) in a WalMart mug, (probably also made in China!

Occasionally I use a 120ml kyusu for oolong. Recently I started to use a Japanese porcelain small teapot as "fair pitcher" when I brew yunnan black tea. Besides, I use a Japanese porcelain cup 80% times for my Chinese tea.

Very early practitioners of Chanoyu were cross-brewers too. They preferred Chinese teawares.

Kind of weird, I have gotten more lax in many areas regarding tea and brewing, yet I have definitely gotten more rigid in this area. I used to brew virtually anything or anything in my first kyusu, since its demise I have not continued the practice ... for the most part.
I will brew Darjeeling however ... but Chinese and Taiwan teas I brew in Chinese/Taiwanese teaware. Japanese in Japanese.
Drinking, I am more lax, especially with the influx of American artisan teaware.

Yes and yes today! I am enjoying Chinese tea brewed in American teaware (my personaliTea from our hosts Adagio). I use this teapot to brew Ceylons, Chinese Blacks, and Tulsi (India), which I then decant into an English teapot. So yeah, I cross brew
.

Don't worry, cross brewing is perfectly healthy and natural. Many people cross brew and live long and healthy lives. It's perfectly normal.
