Re: whats everyones favorite oolong?
Probably a Dan Cong from the Ginger flower scent group of varietals.
But then again I like Huang Zhi group of varietals, and wow how can I forget the big white leaf DanCongs.
And I can't ignore the big Wuyi's Da Hong Pao and it's Children 'Bei Dou', 'Qu Shi' and 'Qi Dan' etc,
and Da Hong Pao's brothers and sisters are favourites also, 'Tie Luo Han', 'Shui Jin Gui' and 'Bai Jin Guan'. 'Rou Gui' is outstanding too.
I think my favourite aspect of Oolong is it's wonderful variety!

Re: whats everyones favorite oolong?
I'm fickle... my favorite changes all the time, depending on what I am tasting.
I actually had a Monkey-Picked Oolong from the oolong box pass that rocked my world more than any other... amazing fragrance, amazing sweetness, lots of rebrew power... it was just sensational and arrived to me at a time when greener oolongs were exactly what I craved. It was from New Century Tea Gallery. I have not ordered because it is not cheap and I fear it won't meet my expectations from my memory, and I'll be disappointed. Maybe a sample order... hmmm....

Re: whats everyones favorite oolong?
I am guessing there will be a lot of hem hawing around on this one.
For me, a high mountain, logically greener Taiwan oolong, perhaps Ali or Li Shan.

Re: whats everyones favorite oolong?
I'm on a bit of a Yancha kick right now, and I can not seem to shake it. But of the yancha I've had I seem to like Rou Gui or Da Hong Pao the most.
Re: whats everyones favorite oolong?
My favorites are the greener high mountain ones. AliShan is usually my favorite, but LiShan was actually better this year. DaYuLing is also excellent.
Re: whats everyones favorite oolong?
I haven't ever gotten serious about oolongs like I have with greens. That being said I really like the following from adagio: oolong #8, oolong #40, and wuyi ensemble. For some reason I just don't like the greener oolongs, like Ali Shan or Ti Kuan Yin, I know this might sound strange but they kind of have a soapy flavor to me. If anyone wants to recommend some other oolongs with similar flavor profiles, it would be much appreciated.

Colour me Baozhong as well. Tie Guan Yin coming in a close second. Dong Ding not far behind.
Re: whats everyones favorite oolong?
Tough call... but I think I would have to say Alishan. It seems to have the best balance of sweet/fruity vs vegetable flavor. I do need to branch out a bit more; my mainland oolong experience is limited compared to my experience with Taiwan oolongs.
Re: whats everyones favorite oolong?
So far, my favorite class of oolong are dancongs. I'm far more willing to spend money on something from Tea Habitat than any place with super-expensive yancha or gaoshans, though I've been pretty happy with Ban Tian Yao and Stephane's Da Yu Ling.
However, that super-roasted tgy from Hou De is really making me rethink this tonight. The aroma from my 12oz mug was one of most impressive power with roasted grain, fruits, and flowers, and the taste was nearly on par. I was lucky to snatch a packet to go with my favorite Hao Xian black before it sold out for now. I need to try an almost green anxi tgy to see how much I like that, but I think at the end of the day, with my tolerance for bitter, a dancong's fireworks and the vast diversity of flavors it offers makes it my favorite oolong. Oh! Yeah, one major reason I like dancongs so much is that they are mug friendly for such expensive teas.
whups! that tgy is back on sale again, sorry 'bout that.

Re: whats everyones favorite oolong?
that's a tough question !
Maybe a nice baked (not roasted) dong ding , such a great tea to sit down and end your meal with , or drink in a small room so the aroma just goes everywhere
Li san too of course, when I can get a hold of ( and afford ) some of the real stuff

Re: What is everyone's favorite oolong?
I have a definite yancha bias, tho I've tasted some lovely greener oolongs. Usually I go in for the sweeter yanchas, like Shui Xian and Da Hong Pao. But recently I'm really starting to enjoy Eight Immortals, which has some tasty malty notes...along with something more vegetal--I can't really place it...it reminds me a bit of Bai Ji Guan, which tenuki mentioned has cabbage-y notes...sounds weird, but it's good weird!

Re: What is everyone's favorite oolong?
After thinking for 2 days, I can't name a oolong that's my favorite
My favorite of this week is a traditional tgy, but I am sure some other oolong will soon supersede it and something else will come up even later.
