Shape of Yixing teapot

by coconut » Nov 13th, '09, 12:52

Do any of you guys think the shape of the teapot should complement the tea? If so, which shape for which tea? Can you give the reasoning as to why? Thanks all

I don't think there is any one given shape or style for any tea, but when considering a pot to pair with a tea shape should be considered.

General rule is wider shapes for long wiry tea like Wuyi's and Dan Congs, and a more rounder or taller shape for a rolled oolong. Those are the two extremes and of course there are varying degrees.

Small for Oolong, huge for Puerh, tall for Black and widen for Green. And rounder one fits all, at least that's what I saw from Chinese books.
