Sunday TeaDay 11/15/09 InTEAmidation at work/school?

by Chip » Nov 15th, '09, 01:59

Greetings TeaAficionados. Please come in and share what is in your cup throughout the day.

Yesterday we discussed Teaware at work. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic is one I have wanted to ask for a while, and it falls in line with the work theme. How do your coworkers and supervisors/fellow students and teachers react to your love of tea (if you are fortunate enough to be able to drink tea). Please share, perhaps you have a story that stands out.

I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

My love of tea is welcomed for the most part. They are definitely interested in what's brewing. But there have been some rolled eyes along the way I'm sure. Especially when it's about teaware.

I said 'other,' though I suppose it's technically 'accepted' -- the problem is that 'accepted' with the people I work with means 'teasing.' But in this case, teasing is just a fun thing. Usually I get questions about what strange illicit substance am I brewing today, or what else I might be growing at home. Good times, and fortunately everybody else receives as much as they take :D

I voted "other". My primary job is in my own studio... and so the boss (me) really tolerates my tea addicition, as do the other employees (me, me, and me).

At the college I work mainly with potters....... they "get" it. Particularly about teaware  .

best,

................john

I voted other: they do not care a whit what I drink, nor do I care what they drink. It's a trivial topic that is below the radar of trivial office chitchat.

Ceylon Kenilworth Estate for starters this morning.

Mine is very similar situation. Besides, in my place, everyone has a tiny office as a private territory. I can do whatever I want in my territory without other people knowing :D

I do have my door open most of the time and let people see my tea drinking. I invite people to join me only when I believe they would like to. Tea (that is not in teabag) is a rare species in my area so not everyone wants to try that "strange" stuff

I don't think anyone cares, at work. We have soda-addicts, coffee-addicts, and the occasional tea drinker like myself.

Irish Breakfast, this morning.

At work I usually drink tea from a thermos or make good bag tea, and no-one else is interested in that. However, on the rare occasions that I bring good loose leaf, teaware, electric kettle and good quality water, I will invite my immediate coworkers to join me. They are always receptive and they are always surprised by what they taste.

I haven't had any tea yet, but my first tea of the day will be Ippodo Ippoen. I opened this can yesterday afternoon for my daughter and her husband. Today I'll get to taste it.

I selected my tea is accepted. For a while everyone thought I was bringing in coffee and of course at that time I correct them and no everyone knows I am drinking tea and just how addicted I am. The common statement..."Oh there is Rachel and her tea again."

I think people generally accept it as one of my quirks, but I'm sure there might be eyerolling going on occasionally. I don't try to push it on anyone or expect it to be a big deal.

Adagio Cinnamon this morning for a change of pace.

In this region, tea is nothing more than Lipton, anything more than that is "odd ball." So they throw their money at Starbucks and that is normal in their mind set. So, lots of eye rolls or at least virtual eye rolls. Still never stopped me, but certainly made me rather self conscious at times.

Busy TeaDay drinking tea, cooking and eating ... and awaiting the big game tonight. However there is a series remake on tonight called The Prisoner on AMC ... for years I tried to describe the original to others, but I somehow think I was the only person who ever watched the show.

And now back to TEA. Began the TD with Hatsumi from O-Cha followed by Matcha from Zencha with DW.

Thinking of Yame Sencha from Den's to pretty well finish the TD.

I had never heard of it until I saw it on the MSN home page this morning, but I have the DVR set to record the new version. But anything with Jim Caveizel in it is fine with me! :)

Sure, I watched all of the surreal, Cold War themed episodes of 'The Prisoner' when it was broadcast here in the US in the late 60s. Patrick McGoohan, the actor who played the lead role, died early this year.

Sencha this afternoon, WuYi oolong earlier. Dreary Sunday outside, but it's always sunny inside with a warm cuppa at hand. :-)
