Seems that I should have figured this out earlier.
I was reboiling water many times throughout the day. Got a new computer, and then I kept blowing the fuse with the electric kettle...had to move it to a new room (circuit) far away from my "tea station." I was getting up so frequently that I finally figured it out.
Now I pour the water directly from the electric kettle into a thermal carafe. Now I don't need to get up. The water stays hot enough for puer, and if I want green I just pour it into a "water cooler."
I'm sure many people have figured this out, but to those that haven't, try a carafe to save on reboils. Water won't be "pristine" (ie. pure spring water boiled in an antique tetsubin with bamboo charcoal...kidding...) but it works great for daily tea.
Some may ask: Why not a regular Zoji water boiler/warmer? We drink so much tea that I wouldn't have patience for the Zoji to boil. Also the water stays hot in the carafe and doesn't use electricity. Just make sure you use a new carafe and do not cross-contaminate with coffee.
Re: Carafe
I've been using it from the first day I steeped my teas in "gongfu" way. There're two kinds of the insulation, one is glass, which is relatively neutral and won't add any taste to your water; another one is stainless, which DOES add some smell or taste into the water. My experience tells me the metal one is good for puerh/oolong and first one for green tea. Just give a try and find it out
