Re: Glazed kyusu
The real question is why would you want a glazed teapot – other than the Shimizu Jin. It is fine to make other teas in an unglazed tokoname pot.
Re: Glazed kyusu
See also Yuuki-cha's Japanese teapots. Nice selection:

Re: Glazed kyusu
I have owned the 6 ounce Somayaki that someone supplied the link for, as well as several of their dobins.
The Soma's are thick, heavy, and double-walled so I have found them to be less than ideal for brewing sencha or other green teas because of their high heat retention. For the same reasons, I have found they do an exceptional job with genmaicha and houjicha. They give them a much deeper, richer flavor compared to brewing them in a lightweight kyusu such as a Hokujo.
The Somayaki's have ceramic filters, but the holes are very large so I find that a metal strainer basket is a necessity. I don't mind leaf in my cup, but I want enough left in the pot to brew a second infusion. Although it isn't stated on the webpage, the two Somayaki's I purchased from Artistic Nippon each came with a suitable strainer basket. You can e-mail Toru to confirm whether this is still the case.

Re: Glazed kyusu
Sorry, you are correct. It appears to be glazed with clear glaze.Intuit wrote:The red one is.
