Sunday TeaDay 11/29/09 Gone, but not forgotted?

by Chip » Nov 29th, '09, 01:19

Greetings and welcome to TeaDay. I hope you will stop in and share what is in your cup throughout the day.

Yesterday we got a jump on holiday wish lists. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. The last bag/tin of tea you finished that you definitely want to reorder (or did reorder) would be? Some details, please.

I am as always looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

Oh that's easy--
Ippodo's matcha Horai-no-mukashi.
Mmmmm, mmm.

Yunnan gold. It was my morning tea. I've been out for a while but keep forgetting to re-order it.

I've been playing the lottery with my mornings by randomly selecting what to drink. It's the only way to clear out those older samples I rarely drink.

If I know where to find the tea, I almost always reorder before I finish a favorite tea :D Then I will feel secured. But I chose "oolong" anyway, since that's what I drink the most. Tea varies from year to year. Sometimes I finished a tea and couldn't find the same level anymore even from the same seller. Then I would feel regretful that I didn't stock up more. I still miss a dong ding oolong I bought in China 2 years ago but can't get the same taste even from the same seller.

I kinda like moving on to the next big thing and rarely do I miss anything I run out of. The one exception I think would be the 2008 first flush Castleton Moonlight. Wasn't able to restock due to the 2009 supposedly being less than stellar.

Currently drinking Pu-erh of some sort. Think it was was one of the special offerings from menghai. I'm not really with it tonight.

I regularly reorder my favorite teas:
Kaboku, Uji bashi san no ma or Warashina sencha
Kanro, Ippoen, Kame Jiru Shi or Tsuru Jiru Shi gyokuro
Wakamatsu no mukashi matcha
Golden needles, Himalaya gold, Keemun Mao Feng Imperial.

Kaboku sencha this morning.
I will reorder some in a few weeks with some matcha, gyokuro and houjicha as well (I usually order from Ippodo two or three times a year) but I still have some packages in my fridge.

Nothing special leaps to mind, though I get the general mental impression of a green (Japanese) or a pu'erh . . .

More shu this morning. Great stuff (perhaps this is the one? :D ). It's going to be a crisp, cool morning... gotta remember to put my Christmas cactus outside! I was a bit late this year so it's just now beginning to push out some buds.

Have a wonderful TeaDay everybody!

I actually I just ran out of and reordered Tao of Tea Mao Feng Noir.
It's a great breakfast tea.

In my cup this morning: a Darjeeling from a TC Swap.

Have a nice day everyone!

I think it was a black? I don't really keep tabs on this sort of thing.

Lazy morning, just some Irish Breakfast earlier.

It was black...since I'm the only one in the house who drinks Japanese greens or oolongs, those don't seem to "run out" on me.

The blacks, however, get used up in a big pot every morning and I try to cycle thru whatever I've got open, so recently I ran out of just about all of them. I reordered from SpecialTeas (Kenilworth - it is better this year, Vithanakande, Yunnan Imperial). I will probably reorder from ToT today (Black Spirals, Tulsi, Neela, and I am going to order the Mao Feng Noir that Victoria mentioned earlier in this thread, too.). And if TeaSource would ever get the Nilgiri Glendale (not the Handmade...it's too expensive for my big pots!), I would reorder from them too. This Nilgiri is the one that is gone but not forgotten...I'm really missing that one. The good news is that because I ran out of this one, I found out about the ToT Neela, which is sooo good.

This morning we're warming up with Ceylon Kenilworth.

Take care,
Dreamer

I acquired a few Pu-Erh Shu bricks which did not have any label or wrapper (so called "naked bricks") and they were from random/unknown mixed batches (part of clearance at a tea shop). Just like a lottery. Well, one brick was VERY VERY good and had a similar taste to a 30 yo Shu, smooth and warm. Jackpot!! Of course, half of that brick was gone within a month (after two weeks of aeration) and the other half took about 8 months. Other bricks from the same purchase were not as good, so far (couple more bricks left). That brick was gone, but definitely not forgotten. :D

Having a Pu-Erh Shu today. This Shu brick is in a flavor changing phase now (different taste 6 months ago), so it was chosen to check its progress. Well, it's sweeter than it was and it's a good change so far. :D

It was an India Assam.

One of my favorites.

enjoying a sansai wan full of organic kagoshima sencha yuuki yutaka.
Mmm.
So many teas I am reading about here.
Several of the teas I've read on this page I've not heard of.
I'm very curious.
I'm sitting here entertaining this image: a gathering of tea folk sharing their teas, tasting new teas as a result, having dialogue about the teas, the varying experiences of taste, aroma, etc, etc.
:D
Getting very curious about kukicha.

Certainly, yes! At this point in time, it would be Japanese greens. Yutaka Midori from O-Cha always falls into this group, always reordering that one. There are many others actually if I get specific, too many to list.

And began the TD with Yutaka Midori from O-Cha ... also in the Sansai Wan. :D SweeTea showed up for the YM while Gandalf, Pyrit and Wulong stopped by the TeaTable for Sunday brunch.

And yes, you definitely should try Kukicha, Seeker! It is a nice change of pace tea, and you can blend with it quite nicely.

Next up, Kukicha from Den's with DW at brunch with my parents.

And now a tasting of Zencha Fuji SP.
