The only reasonable explanation in my mind was that the maker was going for aesthetic realism over functionality. This doesn't seem so farfetched as there are many examples of yixing created as art for its own sake, albeit in the medium of a teapot. Few would deny that many of the pot producers are artists in their own right...

Hello everyone,
I'm new to yixing, so I hope to learn a lot here!
I was given this teapot from a Taiwanese relative who has used it for about 10 years with gaoshan. I'm not really sure of the clay so hopefully you can help me with this.

Clay type: I'm not too sure. Hongni? Zhuni? It has brown color with a few yellowish specks and medium to thick walls. It's definitely high fired and when tapped rings out a clear high pitch sound. The clay inside has a rough, sandy texture. I assumed it would eat up a lot of high notes but surprisingly it doesn't!
Size: 180ml
Age: Probably late 90's
Pour: +/- 10 sec.. Has a multi-hole ball filter and pours in a very smooth line.
Pairing: I pair it with roasted oolongs like Dong Ding and Tie Guan Yin. It really smooths out the heavy roast edges, while still retaining high notes and aromas.

Kind of hard to tell from the pictures you have, but my guess is hongni. Close up shots of inside the lid and pot might help. You should see some shrinkage marks for real zhuni.

You are right. My photos could be clearer... I'm sorry about this. I'm travelling so don't have the pot with me but will try to update the photos. I can't see any shrinkage marks, so I suspect it's hongni. It works really well also with black teas, but I decided to keep it for roasted oolongs that I drink more. Cheers

Doesn't look at all like hong ni to me, but it could be the lighting. I'd say pin zi ni.

Looks nice, but doesn't look F1 to me. I always allow for the possibility I could be wrong though.

That's a beautiful pot. I can't tell from the picture of the lid whether the inside clay is a different color than the outside. If it's a lighter shade inside, then it could be chao zhou pot. Regardless, it's a beauty.

I think you are right the inside is of different colour as it is not shiny like the outside

I'd say the distance is quite far,

It could be old one or a 90's Taiwan replica..

Hi everybody, over the last three years I have been reading quite a bit in this instructive forum, which lead to a small accumulation of teapots that surround me now :D
In Germany, where I live, it is difficult to find information about Yixing teapots, more difficult than to find the teapots. So I hope to get some comments and learn from you.

I guess this might be Factory 1. Rather large (300 ml). Clay: Qing Shui Ni ?
It has some darker diagonal stripes in the upper part. Do they come from irregular heat during the burning process?
