I agree, it's really not that hard to make an account.

i would agree with taking away the guest posting...the spam and trolls are getting more out of hand than i would personally prefer as a posting member. of course i realize that everyone has been very busy at adagio as of late...but something i would hope that could be taken under consideration.

though to not name any names, the signing in doesn't necessarily negate spaming or trolling. but at least when you see a name like "greatp0rn" at least you know what to expect.

i have been a member of other boards that do just this now...you are required to register. spammers are kicked off and people that troll incessantly are either suspended for a period of time or banned depending on circumstances. it really served to make the community better.

I suggest you start carrying a spam flavored tea just for them.

I mean they are fans are they not?

Ok this is getting out of control especially the latest Spam attack by a guest using the tag "sexmen" who is targeting pretty much every old post in sight, causing everyone who signed up for notifications to get a mailbox full of thread update for his porn he's trying to push on us. Any way that someone can quickly ban his IP address to put a stop to this attack to TeaChat and the inboxes of its frequent posters?

I totally agree with you guys, but porn sites can also easily become members of this chat. I frequently look at the profiles of the new members (out of a cat-like curiosity) and find out that some of these "members" are really links to porn sites! One recent one to beware of is named "posmonvie". Don't click on that member's website! It's not a blog  :!: !

My only thing about not letting guests post is that guests may have a single specific question or comment, look for an answer or update, and never come back. I almost did just that my first day :( .

Almost forgot!! Before I forget again, there is another thread on this subject (in the Recommendations forum): We need moderators.. It's good.

I just wonder why they chose to spam this forum with porn spam. It would make sense if they just hate tea, and want to piss us off, but if they are trying to advertise, would people on a tea forum actually pay to go on one of those sites?

Anyway, if any spammers are reading this, spam the message boards on http://www.skateboard.com. They like spam.

I am really impressed with how quickly the sexmen got removed though considering it was a Friday night that it happened.
I bet these guys think tea is great for the libido, that's why they try to hit the site so much.

Porn is not an exclusive industry. Just because you are interested in porn doesn't mean you aren't interested in.... say.... tea. All adults have sex drives, some adults turn to porn. Regardless of their other interests.

That said, no one likes spam.

^ what he said, it's really not the content of the spam that matters (unless it's for something illegal), but the fact that they are SPAMMING the forum, it makes you wonder if they really think that form of advertising will work?

Yes TURN off guest posting! Most forums do not have this allowed because of this problem.

I believe these are not even jerks going around doing this but instead bots that are doing it automatically. It's very annoying but the easy solution is to turn off guest posts.

We have disabled guest posting on the entire site. I agree with peachaddict that some people will be turned away by the need to register before posting a message, but that spambot forced our hand.

And by the way, the reason that people write those bots is not to acquire human traffic, but rather google traffic.
