Sunday TeaDay 1/03/10 Fave movie director?

by Chip » Jan 3rd, '10, 00:20

Thank you everyone for participating and cheering for yesterday's impromptu contest. The prizes will be supplied by Adagio, though they have no idea yet.

And the winner is: Geekgirl for her illustrated matcha size topic and post http://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=11789 First prize as selected by TeaChatters was a $25 GC for Adagio, sorry Geek, not the email notifications you requested. I will be emailing Ilya to let him know again ...

Honorable mention for his outstanding TeaDay post, Tom Verlain http://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... 84#p139907 Tom will receive the second top vote getter, a $5 GC from Adagio.

And a SPECIAL Consolation prize goes to AdamMy for his outstanding new idea for "Ask the Artisan" topic http://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... 14#p140004 Adam will receive the third most voted for item, a GraviTea water purifier from Adagio.

I liked Adam's idea so much, that an official topic was created. I felt he should be rewarded for his idea. AND, I will begin offering "rewards" for any TeaChat idea(s) PMed to me that are in turn used to better our forum :!:

Greetings everyone and welcome to TeaDay. Please do drop in and share what is in your cup throughout the day.

Yesterday we discussed PRIZES for "Post of the Day" honors. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic ... although it is a forgone conclusion. 8)

Today's TeaRoom poll and discussion topic. A few weekends ago, the all time record for a weekend was set for movies. The oll question, I was wondering if you had a favorite movie director. Please share with us and include if you did or will see new blockbusters like Avatar.

I am looking forward to sharing Tea and movies with everyone today. Bottoms up.

Wow, thank you! While I'm sad about the notifications, I'm sure I'll be able to suffer through finding something to do with my prize!

Hmmm... haven't seen Avatar yet, planning to see Sherlock Holmes tomorrow. Yay! I have certain directors that I'm more interested in seeing their work on the strength of the quality of their catalog. Clint Eastwood comes to mind immediately. But otherwise, I'm more story driven than director driven.

Epic sagas are hard to do on the big screen (witness Troy from a few years back, not to mention the Star Wars prequels), but Peter Jackson handled The Lord Of The Rings superbly, I thought. Can't wait to see The Hobbit, where he is involved, although not as the director. Also, he's apparently going to direct the movie version of Tintin, which gives me some hope that it might not suck.

I've had a lot of sencha lately, so it's back to White Peony today.

Favorite director is probably David Cronenberg. But I have never be one to really follow a director. I would be more likely to follow a producer, like say Dino De Laurentiis.

I saw Avatar and it was truly awesome. Loved it! I hope to see Sherlock Holmes next. I've always been a big SH fan. Love the big production movies usually. Still remembering how great Star Trek was, can't wait for the next installment!

In my cup this morning Mariage Freres Saphir.

Congratulations to all of the winners! Of course, to soothe everybody else I'll spout a bit of late 20th Centuryism -- you're all winners!

As for directors, first I suppose I must admit that I haven't seen a movie in theaters since the first Transformers! Or maybe the Moon Stood Still remake. Either way, it's been awhile. But Tim Burton's my favorite director -- I love the dark style, and he usually picks different types of stories to tell.

Rolling with some CNNP today... it's going to be hovering around and below freezing for the next few days. Brrrrrr! I'm just glad I'm not up in upstate NY anywhere where we'd be looking at a solid month of temperatures well below freezing. . .

I don't know if he's my "favorite" but I really do like most of Tim Burton's films. I did see Avatar and was not really impressed. It seemed to me that they were relying on the fact that the movie was so aesthetically pleasing. The movie looked great but the script and story seemed predictable and weak. In my cup this morning was some acai green tea.

I would have to say that Quentin Tarantino tops my list. This chilly a.m. I'm enjoying an organic Tian Mu Qing Ding that I got from my sis for Christmas. Happy Tea Day to all. :D

Thanks for the nod to my bulwer-lytton sentence ... If only all my sentences could be prizewinning .. at least you can rest assured it is not on the "soon to be a major motion picture" list.

I don't have any favorite directors per say but there are a lot of directors that I enjoy most of their movies.

I saw Avatar in IMAX 3D with some friends last week and I must say it was pretty amazing. The story line was pretty good but the visuals were just mind blowing. Im pretty glad it was a success being that it cost half a BILLION dollars to make.

Can't argue with any choices stated so far. While I am not a huge director follower, Peter Jackson shot to the top after LotR, had to wait 30 years to finally see my fave books on the silver screen. Though I did not agree with all of PJ's alterations to the trilogy, he did remain true enough.

Oh, did he and New Line bury the hatchet finally. They were at war over mega bucks from the LotR last I heard. I hope so, as I have been waiting for The Hobbit even longer than LotR.

Congratulations GG, TV, A! Winners all!
I sort of went to film school in another life (oh, 25 year ago or so), and used to follow film quite a bit (didn't finish 'film school', fell in love with the restaurant bus for awhile). But since I've moved to the SF bay area and such, I've really gotten away from all that.
Still, I usually like Jackson, Redford, Cameron, Eastwood, Spielberg, the Coen's, Singer, Coppola - oh and also Tarantino, Burton, geeez, I don't think I can really pick a fav(s). But I don't hold that any of these directors always makes flawless films or sometimes even films that I like all that much. With some I've liked and even loved every film, others, only one or so.

Matcha Tenkei Tori (1st time) in my bowl so far.

I don't really pay much attention to directors, but if I had to pick one, it would probably be Alfred Hitchcock. The majority of his films were artfully done and kept me on the edge of my seat with suspense through the whole movie. And who can not like movies that feature Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant in roles that were against "type" for them?

I haven't seen Avatar yet. I would rather see Sherlock Holmes if given a choice. (What can I say - it's Robert Downey, Jr.!)

Ying Ming Yunnan followed by Glendale OP today.

Whats a director? The actors have names? Thats pretty much where I stand, I only see a few big movies a year such as the lord of the rings and star wars movies. I love to watch but going any farther is rare.

fuka-midori and monk blend today.
