It is a Shipiao, so I can find a similar style, but I've been using this teapot for about 15 years. It has soaked up the tea oils beautifully. Although I could get another Shipiao, it wouldn't replace the time and memories of this one. Next time I go to Yixing, I'll see if I can get a new lid made. What a rotten day.

It must be contagious. I dropped the same lid twice today on my granite counter. A Japanese Tokoname kyusu. Luckily, both times it dropped, it didn't break. This is one of the reasons why I tie a cord from the lid to the handle on most of my yixing. I can imagine how you must feel.

I am so sorry to hear you chipped your lid. I'm always sad when one of my kids or I break or chip my artisan dishes. With a thirteen year old in the house, I only have a few left!
I can't imagine how I would feel if I broke a piece of tea-ware that I had been treasuring for so many years.
Is it still functional? Maybe you just added character to it? ( trying to put a good spin on things, but know it just plain sucks.)
*stranger hug... you know... "the tent" kind*

"Chips" are
reallllly annoying!
Been there and done that. I have more than one pot with adopted lids. Trying to look on the bright side, you still have the body intact and are in China ... so I am sure you will find the replacement lid. TeaHug ...

Most things I've broken have been totally smashed in the sink. Stuff gets slippery.
If its going to break I kinda prefer it to go out in a bang. If there is just a little chip it stays in the collection but never gets used. I feel bad for those pieces...must be lonely.

I have some chipped lids...so when I use them I turn the lid so that the chip is facing away from me. I'm still in the denial stage of my grief

It is amazing to me how much a chip in the lid or spout can distract me when using such a piece. Sounds like a TD topic/poll for tomorrow.

Thank you everyone. I can feel the love. I'm in denial. I turn the lid away, so I can't see the lid. I noticed too that there is now a crack in the lid. I'll try to get a new lid made, but it'll never match perfectly. I'm torn as to whether I wish I would have just dropped the entire pot or not. I'd probably be a lot more upset though, but now everytime I use the pot I'll know what happened.
I hope this never happens to any of you.

That's a funny/sad thread, Will. One must approach all of this as ephemeral. Things change, nothing lasts forever. Love your pots while they are with you!
