Monday TeaDay 1/11/10 TeaTransporter?

by Chip » Jan 11th, '10, 00:52

Good TeaDay TeaAficionados. Please do drop in and share what is in your cup throughout the day.

Yesterday we discussed "if we could" destinations in a TeaRoom TeaDay. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Yesterday it was if you could go ... :!:
And today ...
Janine wrote:Today I am traveling in the land of Yunnan via my teacup.

This made me think, does your cup of tea (and teaware perhaps) transport you to the land of the tea's origin, to a new and different world. Please share ... and would you invite this "virtual transport?" And finally, where is your cup transporting you today?

I am looking forward to sharing this Teaday with everyone. Bottoms up.

No, though I don't think I'd mind if it did.

Yes, green tea does occasionally take me to Japan in my mind. It's Japan the way I imagine it, since I have never been there, and it's full of dragons, bullet trains, daimyos and samurais. And ninjas, of course. I love it when it happens.

I often have a similar experience with Scotch single malts, especially the smoky Ardbeg, which practically yanks me across the North Sea every time I taste it. 'tis magnificent.

My tea cup is a little time travel machine!

When I have my English Breakfast tea, in an English-style teacup and a few leaves are found when I've finished, I'm transported in time to wartime Scotland when my mama and me would have a cuppa' in front of the coal fire, and talk of my dad overseas. He was gone, from the time I was 4 months old until I was 6, with the British Army in North Africa and Italy.

A cup of Jasmine or green tea takes me in my mind to Japan where my granddaughter is a missionary. She's been gone for a year and a half, and I miss having tea with her in real life. We do have some together via webcam on my computer. :?

A cup of Russian Caravan tea transports me to the homeland of my grandparents, Lithuania. I don't know why, really, but it does.

I look forward to new teas and different lands.

Not for me. Most of the time I don't even use the teaware that traditionally is used for the tea :|
Right now I'm drinking a peach green rooibos tea. I felt like something light and fruity.
I panicked when I looked at my tea stash this morning. It is getting low. Only a few cups or less left of each tea. And I still havn't decided what or from where to order next :?

Lady Grey again this morning; trying to finish it up so there's room in my office stash for more things.. probably a new Wuyi Oolong this evening, am looking forward to it as I just bought it yesterday.

I've definitely been transported, but it's not quite as much the type of tea or the teaware (though it can be, if done right), but the mindset and environment of the time. Recent example: the last show I was running, I had a habit of drinking a cup of tea before every show. Fortunately, it was a one-man show, so the green room was very quiet and I could turn the lights down and sit and enjoy my tea while I meditated. VERY relaxing before a show. Hopefully I can find the time to do that before more hectic shows.

No, but I also wouldn't mind if it did.

Enjoying some Twining's Cinnamon Apple Breakfast Tea this morning. It smells awesome enough to make up for the lackluster taste.

A particularly good cup 'o tea will transport me. I remember the first time I tried a high-quality matcha that was done with a chasen. Wow. I felt like I was in a different world.

I've never been to Japan or China, so I don't get transported via memory.
However, like Trey, I get a vibe or imagining sometimes; for me this is about temples and forests and ancient spiritual magics that enlighten, transcend, teach, and heal.
This morning, horai-no-mukashi, and now a mixture of ooigawa and oku yutaka.
Cheers tea friends, and the best of days to you.

Sometimes. Whenever I have a nice Earl Grey I think about what it's going to be like when I attend grad school in the UK next year. Ahhh... Anticipation!

Today, Golden Monkey in my cup.
