Tuesday TeaDay 1/12/10 Altered state?

by Chip » Jan 12th, '10, 01:34

Greetings TeaFriends and welcome to TeaDay. Please drop in and share what is in your cup throughout the day.

Yesterday we discussed whether tea transported us to the land of the tea's origin. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic was inspited by Cinnamon Kitty.

Cinnamon Kitty wrote:I don't know if it is a place, but more of a state of mind. Between having a vivid imagination and a knack for daydreaming, a cup of tea can easily make me lose focus on the real world. Where I mentally travel changes by the day, but it is nice to get away every so often.

So, does your cup of tea transport you to a state of mind as you drink? Please share with us.

I am looking forward to sharing an altered state of mind with everyone on TeaDay. Bottoms up.

Sometimes, but usually not. I drink tea while working, and the work tends to take precedence. Sad but true.

Sencha in the pitcher today.

Yes I think so. I usually sit back and relax. I turn my thoughts to more relaxing and positive things. And then I go back ,to doing what I was doing, more refreshed and relaxed. A cigarette break used to do that for me, but I quit almost 10 years ago.

Right now I'm drinking the Sencha Fuka Midori from my den's sample. I really want to like it but it's not happening. I don't hate it, though. I actually think it's more the smell than the taste that I don't like.

Just the wonderful aroma of that first cup of sencha in the morning has that effect on me many days. It brings to mind warm but not yet hot early summer mornings in Japan getting to work making pots or firing kilns. Nice associations.

best,

It definitely depends - I also drink more tea at work than anywhere else, so that doesn't help. But when I can take time to meditate or just relax, then I can let go more easily.

About to dive into a cup of Scottish Breakfast!

I think a good cup of tea can. Just like yesterday when I thought that a good cup of tea could transport you away, I didn't think we were talking literally away just an altered state of mind.
British Breakfast and Dayquil this morning :( Gotta get going despite this cold.

Drinking tea takes the edge off of stressful days. It helps keep the world just out of striking range.

Tai Ping Hou Kui last night, Jing's shui xian for breakfast, and an interlude with Yame Kiwane right now.

A good cup of tea really helps with focus. Sometimes the focus is on tasks at hand and other times on taking a moment to relax, let my mind wander. Find that creative spark when it is elusive. :) If that is an altered state, then yes!

Tea can help me relax and unwind at the end of the day. That being said there's times where I don't need to relax or slow down, so I'm going to say tea brings me into another state of mind when I allow it to.

Probably about to go with a genmai this morning
edit* no more genmai  so I decided on a moroccan mint tea

for me the truest experience is when i just brew and drink. its so easy to assume that brewing and drinking should complement something, but some of my most relaxing moments have occurred on those occasions when ive focused solely on brewing. then i just sit and drink. thats also when i experience the mentioned altered states.

keemun now. perhaps ym or rou gui later.

Tea works wonders for me.

It can pick me up, or relax me. The pick-me-up I learned from my parents who drank tea only - no coffee - until we immigrated to the U.S. Dad learned to drink coffee at his workplace, but mama clung to her tea. Tea for mama was a panacea that cured all ills. Cold - have some tea. Hot - have some hot tea, it makes you sweat and that cools you off. Sick, weak tea. Troubled?, strong tea. In shock?, strong tea w/sugar, etc., etc.

The relaxation is in sitting with a cuppa', hands wrapped around the cup or mug, staring into the cup and daydreaming about what can be, what might have been, and what is.

Tea, wonderful tea!

Harney & Sons English Breakfast for me this morning. I'm feeling better each day - the pneumonia must be retreating. :D
