Thursday TeaDay 1/14/10 Geeber Versus Greenwood? :)

by Chip » Jan 14th, '10, 02:07

Greetings everyone. Welcome to TeaDay. Please come in and share what is in your cup throughout the day.

Yesterday we discussed whether tea makes the cup or the cup makes the tea. Curious question. The more I think about it, the less certain I am about my response. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

geeber1 wrote:... I'm not much of a [cup] collector. But I do like my "regular" cups and use them every day.

GREENWOODSTUDIO wrote:I enjoy picking out a different cup everyday ...

Thank you to both of these members for providing the inspiration for today's TeaDay!!! Two rather differing viewpoints and certainly neither is right or wrong for everyone ...

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. So where do you fall. More towards Geeber's statement or more towards Greenwood's statement? Please share with us.

I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone, bottoms up.

Definitely lean toward Greenwood in my fascination with chawan and yunomi etc. But I don't follow that PoV because I don't necessarily feel a need to choose a different item every day. I more follow my heart, my soul, my intuition on each day, how I am moved -- this sometimes leads me to the same vessel for multiple days rather than a different one.
Just finished the last infusion of an 18 y.o. loose sheng puerh.

I'm pretty much in the middle of it.. I do have my favourite cup which i use most of the time, but it also happens that i don't use it for weeks circle trough all my other ones.

I'm at the 2nd infusion of a Wen Shan Bao Zhong from Maison de Trois Thes. Yummy :)

I'm leaning more toward Geeber's statement.
I wish I could afford to be more of a cup collecter. I don't have too many yet so can't choose a different one every day. But I still do have a small collection and like to choose a cup that matches my mood at the moment. A flowery small one if I'm really happy, my glass one if I just need the tea right now and not think about what I'm feeling...
But I always use the same cup for my night tea in bed :D

I definitely lean more towards Geeber. I'm not a collector either - I can't afford to be. Most of the time I just cycle through whatever mugs are clean and reachable, or occasionally (especially if I'm meditating while drinking tea) I'll go for one of my tea bowls. If there's company I'll actually get out the matching sets... either of china or small sets I've been given, but I'd rather have the best tea I can afford and use the teaware I already have.

This morning.. nothing yet, thinking about Lady Grey, but possibly Scottish Breakfast. Trying to finish up my pre-bagged teas. Then I can justify ordering more

I wish I had lots of cups to choose from. I don't though so I kind of just pick whatever. Someday I hope that I will be able to afford and pay attention to different teaware for different teas.

Having successfully escaped the teaware bug so far, I'm firmly in the camp of the geebers.

Geeber FTW!

I don't have any special wares but I do enjoy using my regular ol' white mug.

But I keep telling myself, 2010 may be the year of teaware for me... we shall see...

I lean with geebers here. While I would enjoy collecting and selecting different cups each day, I would rather have the benefit of collecting and selecting the teas. Something I'm currently blessed to be able to do.

This morning, a Lemony Gunpowder from Harney & Sons.

I seem to be close to the middle, but lean over towards Greenwoods on this. I rarely use the same cup for two sessions in a row or for more than one session the same day. I definitely shoot for creating variety, but I might use the same cup several days in a row ... if it works out that way.

Since I am so focused on Japanese greens, I rarely have more than 3-4-5 Japanese greens open at one time, thus variety has to come in the teaware!

Started off the TD with a tasting of Yame sencha from a member ... from GreenTea-Japan. Pretty good actually. Very nice aroma and flavor but a little off on the aftertaste. Perhaps adjusting the parameters would help. SweeTea slurped while Lil Bit just camped out at the TeaTable.

Lean towards Geeber. I like to pick out my teaware carefully, but I find if I put too much thought into that, I don't end up drinking much tea.

I am in between. I enjoy buying cups to certain extent. But I've found myself using the old few cups 80% of the time. :D

Having a very large assortment of cups (mostly English style), I enjoy using a different tea cup for my various tea times, so I'm leaning more toward Greenwood. Now, I'll be matching tea more to the tea ware if it is a green tea -- that just seems to lend itself to a tea bowl or handle-less cup!

Don't know what I'll have today tea-wise -- I'm slow getting going today. :)

Wow, I'm flattered! :D

I might "collect" more teaware someday, if time and money allow. Right now I'm still discovering so much about the tea that I can't really focus much on the teaware. But who knows, Greenwood, I might come a'callin' one of these days!

Nilgiri Nonsuch again this morning, but I'm ready to break out of the rut. Haven't decided which tea to do that with yet!
