question about storage.

by HarTEAquinn » Jan 17th, '10, 21:55

Hi, I'm new to tea and have some questions.
I just received my Teavana order of 5 different teas and only 2 tins. I ordered 5 tins total but they said 3 are back ordered and could be 30 days wait. How long can the tea last in the air tight bags they were shipped in? I have only opened 2 teas and placed those in the tins. Also once tea is placed in the air tight tins can other odors like garlic and spices reach them if the tins are stored next to them?
Thanks

I only found out about adagio after I placed an order with teavana. Will try them next time.
Thanks again

Just do not place your tins near strong odors, period. Especially if these are "washi" paper tins since the paper would also absorb odors. But regardless, it is advisable to keep your teas as far away from odors as possible.

I don't know about their bagging ... is it heat sealed? And what kind of tea? There is no general rule of thumb that is reliable.

What kinds of tea are in the bags that are not in the tins? And can you describe the Teavana bag?

And what kind of tins are these?

Given how strongly flavoured Teavana tea usually is, odors might not be a huge problem :)

I bought black, green, white, and mate teas. I uploaded a picture of the tin and tea bag they were shipped in. To open the bag you need to rip the top part off. Inside is foil and has like a ziplock seal on top. Can I just keep the tea in this bag?

Yeah you can just keep the tea in this bag, no need for the tin, really
