I have recently had a revelation and have begun drinking nothing but loose leaf teas. I have ordered Oolong, and Breakfast Tea samplers from Upton, as well as the black tea sampler from Adiago. So far I have enjoyed everything and am quite fond of the "golden monkey" from Adiago. I have ordered myself a new tea pot and a thermos infuser to enjoy tea at work.
About me: I am 28, male, married and have one son. I have a plethora of hobbies, of which I usually dive right in, this being one. I enjoy gardening and am going to try and grow my own Camella Sinesis to harvest my own leaves from . I am also planning on attending Grad School in the fall, and have a feeling that I will be drinking plenty of tea to relax. I look forward to learning more on this journey and discovering all the different tastes that are available. With my new tea pot I also ordered a sample of "blooming teas". This is a new concept to me, anyone have any experience with them?

Welcome to the forum Littlebu, hope to see you around the forum.
As far as growing tea, it should be a hobby and fun since the tea harvested is not likely to be too good, and not much of it either. Blooming teas are rarely the best tasting, but Adagio's was pretty good actually.
Have fun trying new teas.

Yeah blooming teas are more for show, the taste is usually lacking. But they are fun for company. Welcome to our forum!
Re: And it begins
I had two blooming teas from Upton recently, and they were both pretty light on flavor. Interesting to watch though.

Chip,
Yea growing of my own tea would be on a hobby status for myself. I am an avid gardener and have been growing my own herbs for years and making herbal teas out of them. I'm still waiting on my blooming tea sampler, however I did place an order for a pound of Golden monkey and a pound of the Irish breakfast. There's so many others that I wanted to order, but my wife would freak out if I would have ordered them all at once lol.

Just a suggestion since you are relatively new to tea. And based on your desire to try many more teas. Order smaller amounts, a pound of one kind is a LOT of tea. It is tempting to take advantage of price breaks, but a pound may "fade" long before you get throuigh that much. Plus it cuts into you ablity to try a lot more teas.
Again, just a suggestion ...

This is probably a good idea, can get further exposure by ordering smaller quantities of each. I am waiting for the dragon pearls to be back in stock before placing my next order so we'll see how much I go through in that time period.Chip wrote:Yeah, please do let us know how it goes with the growing!littlebu wrote:Chip,

... plus your tastes will likely change!!! This is where a lot of waste can come into play, overbuying then suddenly a tea completely loses its appeal.
Happens to all of us.
