I'm thinking about picking up a tea kettle, not sure if I should go with electric or stove top. I have a Poland spring water cooler that gives me instant hot water at 170°F. If I'm making black tea I fill a pot up and put it on my gas stove, and wait about 30 or 40 seconds for it to boil. Then I try to measure it with a thermometer (Taylor classic instant read pocket thermometer) usually only goes up to about 205°F. When making green teas I just use the hot water straight from the cooler. Should I be heating this water up to 180°F?
I definitely want to get a kettle because I'm tired of hot water back splash when pouring from a pot. Which of the kettles I listed below do you think would help me to get a more accurate hot water temperature and be the quickest to heat up.
1) Adagio utilitea Kettle "Electric"
2) Cuisinart PerfecTemp "stovetop"

Re: Tea kettle
I don't have either one of those but my personal preference is electric. Of course I'm boiling water from room temperature so the stove takes much longer in my situation.

Re: Tea kettle
I love my utiliTEA kettle. If you are looking for convenience I do not see how a stove top kettle could compare.
Re: Tea kettle
I decided to go with the utilitea kettle. Will order once adagio website gets them back in stock.
Thanks guys

Re: Tea kettle
To those that own a utiliTEA, how is the inside? Any plastic? Do the first few boils taste funny when your breaking it in?
I'm thinking of getting one to carry with me for travel. They seem pretty durable. How long has yours lasted you?

Re: Tea kettle
I boiled it through a couple times before using it... so I don't know how they tasted.
Inside is all metal. The outside heats up quite a bit, so I'd let it cool before putting it into a suit case!
I've been using mine for about 6 months... every day, usually several times a day.

There is some plastic on the inside-- the clear window, but I've never tasted any off flavors. I don't even know if I washed mine out when I first got it
haha oh well

I love mine. I definitely make more tea now (even the wife too on occasion
) just because it's so darn convenient.
