Chinese products

by zippityTEA » Jan 30th, '10, 14:31

In an effort to ensure the safety of mass produced items coming from a country with a poor record, I am asking if manufactured products, not the teas themselves, could be sourced from other countries besides China? For instance, the borosilicate glass items used to come from Germany, and were of superior quality. I also assume that countries with stricter safety and inspection rules would be less likely to have issues with lead and cadmium in items meant for food and beverage consumption. Also, can't we find producers of electric items such as water boilers in the US?

Most artisans of say Gaiwans and classic Chinese teaware are from China as that is where the pieces have been made for centuries.

As for Electric parts, you can find many that do the same things as Chinese made pieces from Western countries. The Chinese pieces only really have a leg up in the sense that they have the know how and practice to know what shapes and styles are best for say producing a great pour from a kettle. They have the history of Tea drinking on their side.
