Greetings and welcome to everyone to TeaDay. I hope you will drop in and share what is in your cup throughout the day.
Yesterday we discussed whether tea replaced another "addiction" on some level. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.
Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Taking yesterday's in a slightly different twist. Is tea addicting? Is it addicting on some level to you? Is it habit forming? Is it habit forming on some level to you? Please share. You can vote for up to 3 options.
For simplicity sake, I define addicting to be a physical need created by tea. Habit forming is a psychological need created by tea.
I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

Re: Wednesday TeaDay 2/03/10 Addiction ... habit ... tea?
Currently, tea is a pleasant habit. I drink a lot, but don't notice any telltale 'caffeine headache', regardless of when I start with the first brewing of the day.
(And just for the record, today I didn't start with any tea until 6pm, no shakes or distress occurred, just sadness when I faced a long meeting & clinic without tea.)

Re: Wednesday TeaDay 2/03/10 Addiction ... habit ... tea?
Tea is definitely a habit for me -- has been my beverage of choice at least once, if not more often, every day from a very young age. My parents used to laugh and say that I drank "dirty" water because it was so weak and I put so much milk and sugar in it. However, over the years, the sugar has been abandoned completely, and milk is used in smaller quantities and not every time. Also, the brewing time (for blacks) has greatly lengthened!
I realized it was addicting to me when I was unable to drink tea for a while after getting aspiration pneumonia. I was told to add a special thickener to all beverages in order not to aspirate. Well, believe me, tea does not mix well with Thick-It!!!
So for two months while re-learning how to swallow properly with therapy, I did not have tea! I was a grouch, found nothing that perked me up like a cuppa', and generally just felt cruddy.
So, I really, really need tea!
On Tuesday, Mariage Freres Marco Polo, and Imperial Red.

Yes it can be addicting and habit forming, but not for me. I almost voted it was habit forming for me... but I don't think so.

It seems I'm on a White Peony streak these days. Fine with me.

It's become a habit, but not an addiction for me - I could go days without it, but I don't want to or see a need to. It makes a great start to the day, especially since our office is consistently cold (and I can't drink coffee).
I think it's habit-forming for me because I started drinking it regularly as a substitution, so now when I would turn to a soda, I turn to my electric kettle instead. Not that I didn't drink it or enjoy it before, it just wasn't the first thing to come to mind when I wanted something to drink.
This morning: my Caramel Delight. Finally remembered to bring something other than Earl Grey or Darjeeling to work - I like variety.

Definitely not addiction for me, but probably a strong habit.
I don't know why and don't know if it's a bit weird. Sometimes I feel a little guilty for my love of tea. After all, I said to myself, this is a consumptive hobby, not as productive as, say, painting or photography (I always admire those people)
But it's probably my personality problem of always searching for a goal

I don't think it's weird; I can definitely understand this, and have thought about it myself. I guess for me, I have so many hobbies that it feels good to have one just for me - but is something that I can share with others.gingko wrote:I don't know why and don't know if it's a bit weird. It is addicting and habit forming for me but I gladly welcome it. Now if only I could afford the type of addiction and habit I really would like such as...traveling to foreign lands discovering teas first hand. Until then I will gladly accept any form of habit or addicition to tea I can get.

A habit for me. I'll jokingly call it an addiction, but I've not got the caffeine headaches that I used to with coffee.
Started off the day with yerba mate. Going to switch over to white lychee soon (my current break room stash tea, and therefore my afternoon tea almost every day).

habit yes, addiction no.
and the more I slow down to truly meet the tea, contact the tea, dance with the tea, neither habit nor addiction.

~quickly wipes away the remainders or matcha powder from around his nose~ Addicition? Who, me? I'm not addicted, I swear, I swear stay there, don't get any closer!
In all honesty, Its more of a habit, that most people do not understand, and I only call it an addiction as I tend to make room to fit it in nearly every day possible.
Having some Nichi Getsu sencha in my Ao Teb.
