Re: Thursday TeaDay 2/4/10 The ultimate tea storage topic?
I pretty much store in what the tea comes in, with the exception of some teaspoon sized samples I got from the oolong box pass... which are in plastic zip baggies *doh*
I'm somewhat satisfied- the changes I'd like to make involve where I store my tea... I'd love a dedicated tea shelf to display everything. Right now everything is in a few cardboard boxes on a kitchen cart.

Ditto. I don't have an elaborate collection yet, so I just keep my tea in their respective boxes or tins. I do have a dedicated converted-TV stand that I store all my stuff in, shielded from my sun-drenched windows and heating vents. It's pretty sufficient for what I got going on at the moment, no changes planned or needed.bsteele wrote:I pretty much store in what the tea comes in...

I have pretty much been storing in the original bags - but depends. I do have quite a few canisters too, if I open something I feel needs to be in a canister, I move it. Yes, I am happy with my system. I finally have all my tea organized and I'm working on downsizing. All in all I feel pretty organized now.

I've been using these small tins for storing my teas.

Because of the clear window, I also store the tins inside of a cardboard box to keep light off the tea.
For teas that I have larger amounts of, I use ceramic canister jars.

Those are nice looking jars, where are they from?
Re: Thursday TeaDay 2/4/10 The ultimate tea storage topic?
I have a little cubby where all things tea and coffee go, mostly tea though. I call it my Tea & Coffee Depot. However, these days I am overflowing. Things for me would go easier for storage if I have stackable tins. However, I LOVE what you have done Victoria.

I keep it in whatever it comes in. For my Adagio teas, this works fine. But I also have a few that are just in the clear bags they were measured into at the tea shop. I really need to get some tins to transfer those to!

I don't have a large collection either... yet. I pretty much keep everything in the container it came in - which so far is mostly tins (or in the case of bagged tea, in the box). Once I run out of a tea (especially something that was in a sample tin) I'll clean it out and use it as a second container for something else so I can take it to work. As for where they're stored, I have most of the top shelf in our pantry dedicated to tea, which is nice since it's closed, so I don't worry about light exposure.

Double lid canisters of any kind if they are nice enough.
Unopened packages are stored in my fridge and I don't have too many teas opened at the same time, so double lid canisters work great during the 2-3 weeks the package lasts.

Most of the time, the tea is stored in the package it comes in. I have one or two tins.
I hope to get a few decent canisters for the teas I really like.

I pretty much leave the tea in the packaging it came in, unless it's something totally unsuitable. Then I put the packages in shoebox sized storage boxes according to type. The teas I'm using "at the moment" are kept in a basket on the kitchen counter until I move on to something else.

These are very similar to what I use. I have several cheaper metal tins, but I'm trying to slowly phase those out and replace them with ceramic. They seal extremely tight, are easy to clean and don't absorb scents, and if you keep an eye out at thrift stores, you can get huge ones for your favourite teas for $3-4 a piece.spittingoutteeth wrote:For teas that I have larger amounts of, I use ceramic canister jars.
Plus, I have a few with those spoons attached to the side, which means I never have to go hunting for a teaspoon.
Re: Thursday TeaDay 2/4/10 The ultimate tea storage topic?
I am just getting into tea and tryng to find tins I like at a price i can afford. So right now my answer is that i store my tea in whatever i can find. I put my samples in tins like Spitting, only i used paint on the outside to cover up the window. my larger amounts of tea are either in random assorted cansiters or in the bags they came in inside tupperware for extra protection. I hope to find some tins that will work soon. the biggest problem i am having is finding something air tight with the capacity i need, but that will fit on the lazy susan i use to keep my tea stuff semi-organized. Most of what i find is too tall.

I usually put them into the tins from long-since-drunk teas I have hanging around, or keep them in whatever container they came in. I have a lot of tins!
