Happy Valentine's Day!
Greetings everyone. Welcome to TeaDay. Please stop in and share what is in your cup throughout the day!
Yesterday we discussed how many brewing vessels we owned. Of course you can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.
Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. I think this finishes the brew vessel subject ... for now anyway. It has been quite a while since I asked, " what is your singular, absolute, fave, one and only brew vessel right now?" The ONE brew vessel, NOT type. In other words, the one you would grab in the event of an emergency evacuation. Be prepared to share with us! Got a photo?
Bonus question. What is your fave "type" of brew vessel?
I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone ... and bottoms up!

Re: Sunday TeaDay 2/14/10 TeaBrewing vessel finals?

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!! I hope everyone has an extra
special day!
My favorite vessel right now is my purple-ish Tokoname kyusu.
My very first Tokoname and still my favorite. Kyusu is my preferred
brewing vessel.
It would be a houhin. I can use it to brew all kinds of tea I like, except matcha of course. I might get my fingers burned a little when using it for black teas though.
I guess I would take this houhin set:

and put it in one of my two chabako at the same time. There is enough room in it for the houhin set and the matcha teaware so I eventually be able to have matcha.

Otsuusan sencha this morning.

Nice picture, Victoria.
I chose Improv. Really only have the one.
Valentine's Day still isn't that big up here in Ye Colde North, but I remember when I was in Egypt a few years ago, they had a lot of Valentine's decorations in one of the malls in Cairo. No one who has been to Egypt will be surprised that they were still up on February 25th. It was a very nice mall, with valet parking and everything. And two shoppers in the whole building.

Thanks Trey! Very interesting about Egypt. I was wondering if how other countries celebrate.
Very nice set Olivier!
Here's an older pic of my favorite kyusu:

It is supposed to be in the high 70's today, yesterday was also clear sunny and beautiful. A great Valentine weekend!i

My blue glazed kyusu from Den's--it's durable and can brew anything. It's my most often used piece of teaware, hands down.
Huang Jin Bolero in my cup shortly. This gray, chilly day needs a little brightening.

Aaaaaarghhh! If I have to choose just one, as of today I'd grab my ingenuiTea! Before joining TeaChat, I would have chosen the teapot that matches my wedding china tea set that I have had for 52 1/2 years.
The image is from ReplacementsLtd.com and is of a mini tea pot. Mine is a full size one.

Love the images of your fav brewing vessels everyone!
Haven't had any tea today. About to remedy that.

Thanks everyone for sharing images today.
Well, if the house is on fire, and I can only grab one, I would likely go down with the house til I would finally pick one.
But it would be a kyusu, although some great Chawan, Gaiwanesque, Houjin, etc. makes the choice even harder. It would be a kyusu, still trying to decide which one.
Began the TD with Sencha from Zencha. SweeTea was present and slurping while Gandalf, Pyrit, and Lil Bit were hanging out at the TeaTable.

I don't have a fave brewing vessel... in fact I don't particularly care for my brewing vessel(s)! They can stay behind in the emergency evacuation situation!!
Get back to me with this question once I acquire some legit hardware
Just finished Foxtrot... currently drinking Africafe instant coffee.

Two ways to interpret this question: which pot would I take to a desert island with me, if I could only have one ever again? The hands-down winner would be a small gaiwan, because it is more flexible than any other.
But which would I grab first, if I knew I could not come back to my home, and could only take one of my present collection, knowing that there would be other gaiwans etc in my future? That's a harder question to answer, because I have no special pieces of teaware--I know none of the makers, and none were special gifts. I think I might go first for this tiny clay pot

because it is both very small (50mL capacity), and quite functional (even with straining spout), so nice for the very pricey Dan Cong Oolongs. And it's the only one I've seen that is so small and still has the strainer. So it would not be trivial to replace, although it is not otherwise particularly precious. It's probably not a true yixing, although a majority of the pots on that display were thus labelled.
But in that evacuation situation--after the more important things, in the kitchen, the hand forged cleaver and the handmade wok and the perfect mixing bowl would come first. The teapots would be quite low on the list.

I quite enjoy very fine cutlery (in fact a relaxing preoccupation for me is sharpening ... or honing knives to razor sharpnessdebunix wrote:But in that evacuation situation--after the more important things, in the kitchen, the hand forged cleaver and the handmade wok and the perfect mixing bowl would come first. I have to say... right now... my IngenuiTEA. Too versatile, too awesome to leave behind. Though, if my house were burning down, I'd be more likely to grab all the tea I could and leave the rest behind, but that's another story. No one piece is too precious - nothing really has a memory or story, or anything associated with it, so I'd definitely go for practicality.
Today: so far just some Yunnan Noir, switched to wine with dinner to celebrate Valentine's day, will likely get some more tea after this bottle's empty

Happy Valentine's Day
If there was a fire I would grab my old zhuni yixing to save because its my favorite and most valuble brewing device although my other yixing is a very close second.
If there wasn't a fire but I had to leave for a while I would take my gaiwan because I could brew anything in it besides matcha.
I wish I was at your place Victoria! In the 70's... Im so jealous we still have about a foot of snow and its like 15 deg. here.
Rou Gui in my fav yixing mentioned above

Hmmm... I'm factoring in the concept of which of my brewing vessels would be most difficult to replace, as well as which would be favored and functional. With all factors in consideration, I'd definitely grab a kyusu... but which one?
My glazed blue kyusu from Den's is handy, easy, works on any type of tea, and gets very frequent use from me. But, it's inexpensive and very easily replaceable.
It would have to be one of my Hagi kyusu... but again, which one? The blue tebineri is my least favorite aesthetically, so I'll rule that one out. That leaves my white one without the handle, and my Sansai Tebineri. The 2nd one is definitely harder to replace, and very aesthetically pleasing... but the white one was my first, and gets tons of use, and has lots of sentimental value. So, one of those 2... and that's as specific as I can get.
No photos... camera is in the car, and it is raining/snowing, and I'm just not going out there.

Well, to be honest, in an emergency evacuation i would probably forget about the teaware until last. having actually been in the position twice of having 5 minutes or less to grab what you can, not knowing if you will be back. First, the dogs, then irreplaceable items and family heirlooms and laptop, if time, a few chages of clothes. IF i were to grab teaware, i have an ugly pink gaiwan that gets used most because of large size (approx 5-6 oz), versitile, and easy to clean that would probably go after the more important things.
Right now i dont have any special teaware and might choose to take tea instead of teaware because all my teaware is inexpensive (nothing over $10) and very easily replaced. I could always improv teabrewing for a few days, but it takes usually takes a full week for a tea order to arrive so in an emergency evacuation tea would probably trump teaware.
