Tea set that came last Christmas from Jerry Ma, owner of Chinese Kung Fu Tea Art Store on Ebay.
I never had a chance to take a decent picture of this, but today there's a nice sun, and while waiting my Colomba dough to raise, I made some tea... (well, my pictures are not at all good, but this is the better I could make!).
Jerry is a really smart guy, he also got me a gaiwan which I still have to portrait. I hope to have more business with him in the future (given that I have some more money and that euro won't weaken more).

Thank you, Victoria: here is the other gaiwan. The porcelain is a little heavier than the previous one, but I love the drawing so much that it has become my favorite teacup now.

Ahhh yes, I see why. Lovely! I am more drawn to
floral motifs myself.

I finally cleaned up those tea trays. I just used soap and water. I have a stack more, but haven't gotten them home yet. I think I'm going to add some stain to darken them up a little bit. I will then add a coat of wax to them. None of them had a finish of any sort, just bare wood. The bottom one was painted black. I won't touch that one though. They are slabs of wood that were carved into trays. They'll be great to serve tea and bring out my tea ware for tea sessions.

I think some stain will bring out the beauty and still keep the original character. I especially like the 3rd one. I bet it will be a beauty.

I agree about the stain. Just punch it up a bit, without changing it too much.Victoria wrote:I think some stain will bring out the beauty and still keep the original character. I especially like the 3rd one. I bet it will be a beauty.
The third one is actually a slab of wood like the rest. It is very deep with fancy edges, but it is made from a single piece of wood. I'll try to take a photo of the bottom of it.

Here is a cup made by Xu Dejia from Taiwan. It's a departure from his normal style. He told me he was just trying something different. I like the finger prints in the glaze.

I know I need to work on my photo skills because these don't do my new teaware any justice I got these on the last night of the Chinese New Year (and note the tiger on the bottom of the zisha). The other is a Taiwanese celadon cha hai and teapot with three rolling cups.
Mei Hua with her new little brother, Hei Hu.
ditto.
Hei Hu's 'black tiger' stamp.
Hei Hu's size compared to my hand.
Celadon set, minus cups.
the whole celadon family.
showing aroma and sipping cups seperated.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIGIYfeEzqE Short demo of how the rolling cups work. When I have more time, I will make a better demo using the other set peices and some tea!

Wow, that's a great set! Very nice! I have never seen shorter cups in an aroma set. Quite charming.
IPT - nice cup too! Love the crackle.

Thank you. I was really surprised how quickly it stained.

Very cool wares, IPT and Aphro!
IPT, your cup is reminiscent of Hagi, love the crackles!
Aphro, that is one awesome celedon set, very beautiful indeed! Thank you for sharing it with us. Celedon is def one of my weaknesses.

It is one of mine as well!! Unfortuantely, the artist in Taiwan who was making these sets has stopped making them. One of the things that drew me to the set was the 'water and wind' theme - how you can look at the same set through each or both of those themes and see something different. The other was those cups!! I was amazed at the little aroma cup (I am used to tall skinny ones) and when she showed me they rolled, I was hooked! The funny part was that at first I could not roll the cups, but my husband could and my husband could not lift the aroma cup up after rolling, but I could - so we made a good team until we each worked out the mechanics!Mrs. Chip wrote:Very cool wares, IPT and Aphro!

That is a shame that the artist has discontinued creating them.Aphroditea wrote:It is one of mine as well!! Unfortuantely, the artist in Taiwan who was making these sets has stopped making them. Yes, the shape is beautifully intriguing.
It reminded me of swimming swans
Chip and I make a good tag team too, he brews the teas and I drink them!
