Good TeaDay to all! I am hoping you will stop in to TeaDay and share what is in your cup throughout the day.
Yesterday we had a TeaRoom teaday, off the topic of tea for the holiday. Are you checking out the Olympics? You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.
Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. I ask this because we change our tea habits, but we also have newbies to our forum. CURRENTLY, what size are your average/typical steeps for your fave tea? Bonus question, have they increased or decreased in size? Please share.
I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

Re: Tuesday TeaDay 2/16/10 Steep size revisited?
I tend to stick with the standard 8 oz cup. I've pretty much only been western brewing, simply because I don't have time for anything else. I would say that my serving size habits have slightly increased because I haven't brewed any 3 oz or less servings in a while.
Re: Tuesday TeaDay 2/16/10 Steep size revisited?
I usually use a 60-90 ml pot or gaiwan when brewing for myself (so around 2.5-3.5 oz), either into a couple of ~ 35-40 ml cups or else into a fair cup and then a tasting cup. That's the capacity of the pot when it's not full of tea leaves - might want to clarify that in the question.
For up to 4 people, I still am pretty happy with something at or below 100 ml. For a big group (6-10), I'll usually use something between 150-225 ml. Most of the time, I don't tend to pack the leaves in quite as much when brewing in something bigger.

mmm less than 7oz... but I'm not really sure. I just pour the water until it looks right; I shoot for 6ish oz. That's probably a decrease of maybe an ounce or two
More than 30 oz?! Yowza, now that would be a lot of tea.

I brew about a liter at a time, which the unit converter tells me is 33 ounces. Yep, it's a lot. Imagine the grief I experience when I oversteep.
Juts brewed a liter of sencha. No oversteepage this time. Yay!

forgot to mention when I cold brew ...so that definitely brings my average up
.
I normally brew a half gallon or 64 oz at a time.

Somewhere between 6 and 8 typically. Give or take an ounce less (which would be 5 to 7). So I voted <8.
Overindulged for Valentine's day - body/digestion struggling all day.
So it's a tisane in my cup - organic chamomile, lavender, and calendula.

When brewing to fill up the thermos to share, average 6 oz infusion size. Also 5-6 oz for the morning sencha. But when brewing gongfu for one, about 2 oz per infusion in small gaiwans or yixings. And since you asked for infusions sizes for favorite tea, that would be the 2 oz or so gongfu style for just about all of them.

Typically around 90ml per steep, less for gyokuro (50-60ml), more for houjicha (150ml)
It has decreased a little since last year.
Musashi sencha this morning.

I usually brew around 6 oz but I do have a teapot which brews almost 40 oz that I also use frequently. Gluttony (seven deadly sins series) this morning.

5 to 6 ounces which is a little less than I used to use. This is for black and oolongs. It is less for my experimenting with greens, whites, and I have yet to try pu erh.
About to have Mariage Freres Marco Polo--it is now my favorite black tea.

All depends on the pot and the tea, I voted <6 for usual.
In my cup this morning the last of my Silk Road Teas - Red Peach (Hong Tao Mao Feng), which I have decided I need to re-order.

Re: Tuesday TeaDay 2/16/10 Steep size revisited?
Since I'm mostly using mugs at the moment - haven't used my gaiwan in a couple weeks - I had to go with <10 since most of my mugs are slightly larger than 8oz. Though when making enough for me and my boyfriend (and possibly my roomate), I make a full pot - probably about 32oz.
This morning, Sagittarius blend. Thought about some Darjeeling, but it just didn't smell right this morning. Maybe later.

Re: Tuesday TeaDay 2/16/10 Steep size revisited?
I choose <4 and I mostly use teapot of 100ml to 110ml. I guess my favorite size stays the same. However , in the past year, I used more of a 60ml gaiwan, in order to taste multiple kinds of tea within a day. But 100ml fits my schedule better, allowing me to somewhat focus on the tea but not to go back and forth frequently from my kitchen to computer for more tea
Re: Tuesday TeaDay 2/16/10 Steep size revisited?
Usually six ounces or less since i started using a gaiwan. I have two gaiwan, a larger which holds about 5 oz that i use for most types of tea and a smaller one probably about 3 oz that i use for tasting samples so if i mess it up, i havent wasted as much of the tea. occasionally if i am brewing cold tea, or brewing for a travel mug i will use my large 24 oz teapot.
This is a reduction in brew size from when i first started. i used to make a 24 oz pot, but it always got cold before i could finish.
Starting the day with white peony again.
