Saturday TeaDay 2/20/10 The beginning of your TeaDay?

by Chip » Feb 20th, '10, 01:14

Welcome everyone to TeaDay. Please share with all of us what is in your cup today.

Yesterday we discussed whether we were more TeaArtists or TeaScientists in our approach to brewing tea. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaDay poll and discussion topic. Do you start your day with the same type of tea, the same tea, or try to start each day with a different tea? Please share your "routine" or lack there of.

I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone, bottoms up.

Same tea everyday. Yunnan Gold (from a local vendor). It is my replacement for coffee. I've been meaning to try some YG from my favorite on-line vendors, but this one is relatively cheap and gets the job done
Each morning I brew this tea in a 6oz yixing pot. Usually get three or four pots before the leaves give out (if I really pushed it I could get a fifth).

Chip, I noticed more oolongs in you TD lately

Oh, in my cup, TGY while watching Olympic Curling :D :D :D

I usually start the day with a black now. But I like to vary the different ones, from day to day. The pouring rain woke me up.

No rhyme or reason to my first tea of the day
One year ago, it would have been quite always a black (Yunnan golden tips or Keemun).

Musashi sencha this morning and Kanro gyokuro after lunch.

Right now I am working my way through a white tea sample pack so i answered the same type of tea every day. I prefer whites in the morning because they get me going without upsetting my stomach the way some black teas do, they also seem to do ok if i forget and oversteep (which is most likely first thing in the morning). I will probably go to one specific tea once i finish the sampler, just havent decided between white peony or silver needle. The only time i dont start out with white is if i am not at home.

Starting the day with Drum Mountain white cloud. not my fave so i am trying to finish it off.

98% of the time, it's a black, but the variety of black changes quite often.

This morning I'm having a flavored black called "Morning Sunshine," which is a Ceylon black with a citrusy flavor.

I usually have a black tea but not a specific kind. Like yesterday I had toasted sesame with breakfast but today was chocolate chip. Me and my boyfriend switches off each morning who gets to choose what kind of tea we will put in our pot for breakfast.

Same here. I drink whatever I'm in the mood for, which would be dark roasted oolongs recently.

Always the same general type, (green>Japanese>sencha of course), but usually a different tea.

Yeah, I have always really liked Oolong. I am getting low on Japanese greens and trying to pace so I can hold out til Shincha, but it is looking bleak. Thus I have been making more Oolong with Mrs. Chip who has time off this week.

Started with a 2nd attempt at matcha today, then quickly moved on to my usual sencha. Like the sweetness in the morning.

Tends to be black, sometimes oolong, but exactly what it is varies. I like something a little stronger in the mornings - especially at work (where I tend to only have 3-4 teas at a time anyway). If I'm at home, anything goes, whether it be first thing in the morning or later on.

Overall, it really just depends on what smells right. That applies to any day, any time. So I had to go with "no rhyme or reason" as well.

Today: started out with Den's sampler sencha, now drinking the sampler genmaicha. Really liked the one I had yesterday afternoon... but can't remember which one it is offhand - I'll have to look when I get home. Grabbed a couple teas on the way out the door this morning to go to work with my boyfriend before going house-hunting. I have to say, I'm definitely liking green more than I did, now that I know how to steep it to have it not tasting flat and bitter!!

During the week, it is a black tea, though I tend to alternate between whatever black teas that I have. I actually just restocked my two favorites: Organic Monk's Blend and Irish Breakfast. Those two are my staple breakfast teas along with any masala chai blends that I have.

On weekends, there is no rhyme or reason to which tea I start with. Today it was a sencha (Organic Kagoshima Fukamushi Magokoro from Yuuki-Cha). Tomorrow, it is likely to be something different. Right now, it is cold-brewed orange sencha that was the sample of the month from my Den's order. Though I would be relunctant to brew it hot, it works well cold-brewed and is very refreshing.
