When do the 2010 Spring oolongs come out?

by spittingoutteeth » Feb 23rd, '10, 16:31

Really looking forward to some fresh green oolongs to take me out of my winter funk. Any idea when the first 2010 Spring oolong harvests begin?

I think Huang Jing Gui Oolong tea will come first, probably in mid March, then the Maoxie, Benshan will come later. Tie Guan Yin is supposed to come out in mid/late of April.

Dancong probably in late March will come. Yancha is the latest among the three Oolongs, especialy the dark-roasted Yacha, maybe in late July or August. :)

Hi everyone! Happy to join you!

Seems like some new 2010 Yan Chas from DTH just arrived:

Isn't mid-March not a bit early for new stuff from Wuyi? Probably some very special small batches... ?

It seems impossibly early, I fear that Gordon has put down as vintage the year that it entered his inventory.

I toyed with the idea that it was an autumn / winter tea that did not finish it's processing until after Jan 1st, but then noticed that he said "Spring leaves".

... but I did not see the year? Or did I miss that. Could it be Spring 2009?

This is really funny... Perhaps they started roasting this Yan Cha during Valentine's day.

Normal cultivars would be harvested in early May. Early-harvest cultivars are being frozen to death or half-dead by snow+frost from last week. But why would you want 2010 yan cha anyway? :P

Does this mean the normal spring Wuyi harvest is likely to be negatively impacted? or too early to tell?

So far what I heard is, the impact on traditional cultivars of Wuyi and TGY is rather small, since their buds are barely out yet. But some say there will be some small impacts on overall production, and harvest may be postponed for just a few days, depending on later weather. The high mountain Dan Cong looks terrible though. Many new bud and leaves are covered with icicles and some bushes were even killed.

Hmmm, I like to see the evolution of a tea from the start, to the different stages of aging. But it needs to be from a good and trusted source... Do you have some recommandations for good Yan cha? I just tried some Camellia Sinensis (were OK) and Hou De (so-so) yet... Wanted to give a try to DHT but now I'm not quite sure...

That is pretty terrible indeed! Hope the damages won't be to bad... :(

unfortunately finding an outstanding yan cha is pretty difficult. I've had some from Jing that have been good for the price, but haven't been mind-blowing. The Rou Gui that I had from Cloudwalker was pretty awesome...I don't think I've yet to have such a distinctive yan cha.

For the really top quality Yancha, probably it wont come out in mid of June or July, because they need to be carefully baked by charcoal. So need to wait for a while for high quality Yancha. But I guess it is worthy.
