Welcome one and all to TeaDay, brew some tea and come share what is in your cup today..all day! Make sure you check out what other TeaChatters are drinking as well. You can also reflect back on your TeaDay if you need to.
Yesterday we discussed our fave teas for February. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.
Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic is positively negative for a change! What is the singular WORST tea you ever had the displeasure of trying, not including the random bad cup out somewhere ... this is a tea that you either purchased or received as a gift. And what happened to it?
I am hoping to see you on TeaDay, drinking something delicious! Bottoms up...refill!!!

Re: Sunday TeaDay 2/28/10 Worst tea ever?
An Earl Grey, from a teabag; can't be sure where or when the absolute worst was, but I definitely associate that with some seriously vile tea experiences. A combination of bitterness, excessive bergamot, and my general bitter-phobia together make this a worst tea for me.
Saturday was a lovely teaday, starting with Fukamushi Sencha, then some spring Ali Shan Oolong, and ending with a marvelous cup of korean hydrangea leaf tea. Tomorrow, have to figure out which of the newly arrived puerhs to try first--just got my first order from Yunnan Sourcing.

well my saturday has officially spilled over into sunday, so I have started sunday with some wuyi, one called golden buddha, the other is rishi's organic wuyi. finished saturday with a tgy.
....oh forgot to mention the worst tea I have ever tasted was a chrysanthemum pu-erh. large chrysanthemum flowers and what looked like a loose leaf shou. I got it because my girlfriend loves chrysanthemum but this was a horrible comb. After brewing up a pot I started drinking a cup when my gf said "I can't finish this cup" I gave the "Thank god she hates this too" look and we laughed at how awful it was and switched to some good pu. I was able to return it hassle free that was a great bonus.

This is the easiest poll question ever.
The worst by far was called "Raspberry Gardens Green Tea" from celestial seasonings. Im reading the box as I type. I don't know why I still have it maybe today I will throw it out. It was a gift from my grandma and one of the first teas I tried and even then I couldn't drink it.
organic sencha and more infusions from last nights tie guan yin in my cups this morning.

I voted black but it was a toss-up between that and flavored/scented.
Last year I bought some Dooars (India) black and no matter what I did to adjust leaf amount, water temperature, or steeping time, it was YUCK! So bitter I couldn't gag it down.
The worst flavored / scented tea I've ever had is Earl Grey. Oh, and Jasmine Oolong.
More Yunnan from Puerh Shop in my cup this morning, it's the 6th infusion of yesterday's leaves and I finally had to throw them away.

Positively one of the worst teas I ever experienced was a gift from my oldest son. He was so proud of giving me a "tea chest" with tea bags from Hickory Farms. I tried the cranberry flavored tea and spit it out! Immediately tossed all the cranberry and in the end there were only a couple of flavors I could stand. Without telling him not to ever buy Hickory Farms tea again, I gave him the name of a couple of teas I liked and the vendors who supplied them!
Looking forward to some more Anxi oolong today, and maybe some Golden Monkey from Silk Road Teas.
New dog Barclay settling in very well.

All that I am saying is that it was a Signature Blend...don't want to hurt any feelings.

I believe my worst ever was Cherry Rooibos. So horrid I have really wiped the memory of it. That was quite a while ago and long forgotten.
Neela from ToT in my cup this morning.

Worst tea ever for me would have to be a high roast TGY from a Local Chinese market....
bad idea

East: Teavana's Yin Yang Dragon Rooibos. It tasted like rotten bananas mated with weak hot chocolate. Looks like it isn't even available any more, and they only brought it out last year. Terrible, terrible stuff. I shudder to think of it.
Drinking raspberry yogurt K Teas this morning for the first time - it's great stuff!

Wow, this was actually kind of tough for me. I am still trying different teas, but so far there have only been two that were so bad i couldnt finish drinking them. So, i voted flavored, but its really kind of a tie between the starbucks tazo earl grey and chamomile. both of which i threw out after only two sips. The rest of the chamomile went straight into the trash. (too bad i didnt know about tea chat at the time, could have found it a nice new home)
Just starting the tea day with silver needle. I really hope my order from norbu comes in tomorrow. I had hoped to get it yesterday since it was just comming from dallas, but no such luck. I am almost out of white tea so i may have to start tuesday with a green

I got shivers down my spine thinking of a HF teabag, visions of "Chuddar" Tea, or Garlic Beef Stick?artmom wrote:Positively one of the worst teas I ever experienced was a gift from my oldest son. HF teabags wins the worst sounding tea contest so far.
Glad to hear Barclay is settling in to his new home.

Re: Sunday TeaDay 2/28/10 Worst tea ever?
Worst was a tie, a Lapsang teabag (the brand name eludes me at present, but it was a step up from Lipton, but the brand is still in super markets), one of the very few teas I actually threw away w/o hesitation.
And a really vile, really cheap Jasmine Green from an Asian Market, realllllly tasted like poison might taste. Kept the tin (a 4 language tin, each side displays a different language, so they scored with the tin anyway ... which was even a double lid) ... might still have the tea inside. The stuff actually scared me, still does which is why it is still in the tin perfectly preserved by the double lid, oh the irony.
Began the TD with a Gyokuro sample, served up in a vintage Zuiho Uno Hagi-Yaki set. SweeTea slurped while Pyrit and Wulong sat in at the TeaTable.
