Ode to the Kyusu

My one and only kyusu... It has served me well, *whispers* but I yearn for more.

I love the grey body on that one too..and i KNOW what you mean..i am constantly "window shopping" i JUSt got my second Kyusu..ok well my third but one was the unfortunate victim of my one year old..so it no longer exisists...

It's actually a green body, but it does look somewhat gray in the photo.

Ok ok! I know I posted a similar pic of this in the Hagi topic but it IS a Kyusu..AND ..well..because I wanted to!

Yes it is such a wonderful Kyusu... I do not wish to speak badly about Deishi or Seigan, but I almost feel their works are so over exposed in the Western Tea world that it takes a really special piece of theirs to stand out. As I hate to say it certain artists are often based around a comfort zone, and it takes a truely exceptional artist to consistently break free from those comfort zones and succeed mosst of the time.

But Kashun is new and fresh and I'm in love with my Kashun piece so I love drolling over his wares.

Sometimes you like a kyusu because ... it bears a Japanese theme that is personally special. Here, a simple kyusu, inexpensive, bearing Momiji leaves.

And trying to steal the show, Acer Japanicum "Aconitifolium." with fresh Spring leaves from the garden.

A work horse holds about 15-20 oz. beauty is in the eye of the beholder with this one. I like it's rugged crafting.

Your Kyusu preferences lean way to the rugged side with that nice Japanese look. I think a guy could easily like these while maybe a woman might have a harder time with them.

I just picked up this one from Yuuki-Cha, I've had my eye on it for some time. It has an obi-ami screen, but I've been very happy with the performance of my Den's obi-ami kyusu so I expect this one to also work well for me. Maybe a sasame next time ...

Quick question, this is my first unglazed kyusu, should I soak it before use to remove dust etc.? And as far as actual use, it'll brew a lot of sencha, but I also enjoy houjicha in the evenings; if I brew houjicha in this pot, is it going to pick up some of the roasted character and pass it on to my sencha brews? I was planning on taking the Den's glazed kyusu to work, but may need to keep it at home for a while for my evening tea if it's a problem doing sencha and houjicha in the same unglazed pot.
